After looking at that "coming soon" text in the NIN Shop for SEVEN YEARS, I finally paid for an original pressing. With my luck, the definitive edition should be available tomorrow :-)

Now for the sound: Really, really nice. The recording is mixed quite quiet, I had to amp the volume a lot, but the sound quality really gives, even with this loud amplification. This is definetly an the CD Version.

Funny thing: For the first time ever I was able to hear "red horse vector" in the track "the great destroyer", people who were into the alternate reality game on its release know what I'm talking about.

Got a copy on ebay last week for a reasonable price... Got lucky. Mint condition too. Chuffed :)

Is there some reason there's not a page for the multitrack release of this album? Pretty sure that was released legitimately online; not some algorithmically generated sh**. That's why at least one of the songs has 18 tracks for all the different instruments and sounds. Anyway, seems pretty noteworthy because as I noticed from DR Database https://dr.loudness-war.info/ this multitrack version of the album, when rendered with reduced gain (to bring the loudest peaks down to 0db) has the most dynamic range, at DR12; or at least that's the most dynamic version reported there; more dynamic than the vinyl report there (dr10). I just spent several tedious hours rendering the multitracks myself lolol. I actually got a very slightly higher reading than the one at DRdb, with "Vessel" reading dr14....worth it? lol...Well, probably worth it either way, because they sound pretty fire thus far. Haven't had a dedicated listen yet, but it seems like about the best version of the album if you like dynamics, unless I'm missing anything.

Also, I love this album. The Fragile is my favorite; Downward Spiral is probably #2, and then honestly Year Zero, Hesitation, and PHM might be tied for 3rd. Suffice to say, I've got a lot of respect for Reznor in that, in my opinion, he's done a pretty remarkable job at continuing to pump out quality songwriting after all these years. I've got my favorites, but there's not a single NIN album that strikes me as 'his heart's not in it' 'he's uninspired' 'he's ran out of ideas'....etc. Nope, it's always at least something interesting, if not bangin'

These sound like someone took the multitracks, removed something from each song, and then combined them.

I finally have a copy as of June of the year this album is set in... and it is glorious. Easily one of my favorite pieces in my collection. While I'm sure the reissue will eventually happen, this will do. Shockingly good sound quality considering this was pressed in the CD era, the mix is noticeably different, I hear details I can't even pick up on with the digital/CD copies. If by some miracle you happen upon a copy, GET THIS. I am still anticipating the reissue, this is an era I am dying to read about with the essays Trent and co. have been pulling together for each reissue.

Fingers crossed for a better pressing of The Slip someday too, as that's the only vinyl I have of their major releases I don't care for the quality of.
