Don't you just love 70's Priest? I actually like the way these Mofi Priest lps were recorded even if it wasn't off the master tape. Quality gatefold packaging too.
-
Not good for the money, it sounds like the ESCA 5212 1990, Japanese CD, i checked the waveforms and the ESCA 5212 is more dynamic actually. Better go for an Og UK / USA or the Second Japanese with the Green Obi!

Edited 11 months agoIt's been a long time since I heard any OG copy but I have spun this pressing several times with ever-increasing appreciation and I just A/B'ed it to the 2001 Sony CD official remaster, specifically Beond The Realms Of Death.
On my rig the CD needed the loudness off, bass lowered a notch, and volume at 2/3 of the Mofi.
At that point the voicing and instrumentation was similar but the MoFi had a holography and detail that was noticeably superior to the CD.
In my worthless opinion the first 4 Priest albums are sacrosanct and deserve the highest quality listening experience. I'm a committed...analogist? but have no beef with the digital master used for this pressing, I can testify that the vinyl is black hole silent. An immersive excursion into the Metal Gods at peak creative form, again IMWO
Dynaco PAS-3X preamp and Dynakit MKIII monoblocks, all hot-rodded by Kenny Russell
JBL Centurys
Technics tt
Stanton Calibration Standard cartridge and stylus
(vs my trusty but old Panasonic CD/DVD player. Maybe that had something to do with it, but I have a few CDs which i think compare well with their OG analog vinyl counterparts without the excessive knob-twiddling...) -
This is the best sounding pressing of this record that I have ever owned or heard. The original inner sleeve is replicated in the heavy stock gatefold as well. Excellent piece.

With the recent MFSL debacle I was wondering if this specific release also went through a digital step somewhere in the process, as it's the only MFSL record I own and I am curious. Also, has a specific MFSL "delinquent records" list been compiled yet?

Edited 4 months agoIncredible pressing, very high quality, very quiet..a masterpiece by Judas Priest!

The sound of this record is incredible! Comes housed in a nice anti-static/anti-scratch inner sleeve and a nice thick gatefold with beautiful artwork and numbered to each individual copy. If you love Priest and this album which is one of their greatest in my opinion then I highly recommend this pressing.
