Tip: If you're determined to have the original UK pressing, consider seeking the Australian pressing which used the 1971 UK metalwork - same 1U and HTM matrices in the runoff. A NM copy is cheaper than its NM UK antecedent. I paid only $20.00 for a NM copy in 2014; NM copies go for well under $100 today. (Discogs lists it as a 1971 Australian issue, but it may actually be a later 1970s reissue.) Here:

finally found a super clean first UK pressing and it's lovely. also, have a first Japanese, another mid 70s UK and current. this is the one to have, sonically superior in every way...

When the bass guitar and drums get going in “Echoes” you’ll know why you invested in this pressing. Highly recommended.

Such a fantastic pressing! :) My copy still sounds flawless even though it's over 50 years old and my dad used to play it a lot in the past. If you want to show someone how great music on vinyl can sound, this would be the perfect choice! ;)

My 1U (RR) has plenty of scratch pops and surface noise, but this pressing is incredible, immediate, present and rich. Very solid bass with cymbal shimmer, as a fresh master tape might sound in 1971. Interesting to open up the gatefold and see the ear as Hipgnosis intended. The North American release had the ear hole airbrushed out.
