Edited 3 months agoI compared this to my 1990 German and MOV pressings. Over the years, I’ve always perceived the MOV as the better between the two, but I held onto both. In this three-way comparison, I was (surprisingly) least impressed by the MOV. It conveyed the atmosphere of the album, but it did not have the fullness and raspy vocal of the original.
This 2024 version sounded like a good, modern remaster. It had better instrument separation, better defined and slightly deeper bass and I suspect will play louder without hiccups. But it didn’t quite match the visceral impact of the original.
I love the album so will probably hang onto all three, but this pressing and the original are my winners. If this is your only copy of the album, you won’t be disappointed. -

After reading the positive reviews I bought a copy, and boy was I disappointed. I don't have an original pressing, only the cd, but this one doesn't sound good to my ears at all. There's lots of distortion, right from the beginning of each side, that gets imposdible to bear by the end of the sides. Probably due to the fact thst it's on coloured vinyl, I don't know why labels still release coloured records when they know damn well the sound quality suffers , especially when they're so expensive. I'll put it away and never listen to it again, the cd will do it for me.

Bought it after reading the reviews on discogs. I also have the original version (a Czech version from Globus international). Anyhow, the reissue version sounds good and a great pressing. No surface noise at all!
But if you have the original version from the 90’s make sure to hang on to it. The original version sounds slightly better. Anyway, the reissue sounds very good and it’s very nice to have the singles included!

Edited one year agoI compared this version against my other 4 copies I own: UK 1990, 1990, MOV 2011 and 30th anniversary 2020. The MOV release remains my favorite. It sounds better than the originals but keeps the original atmosphere. The latest release adds some transparency and clarity to the high range but the overall sound quality slightly differs from track to track. The MOV version offers a more consistent overall sound. There’s nothing wrong in buying the latest version but I guess I’ll keep on spinning the MOV version as I only have to flip sides once during playback.

Edited one year agoThis definitely sounds better than my original copy from the 90s. Also, the pressing quality is excellent: no pops or clicks or surface noise. This pressing is definitely worth buying.

First off let me say I think this band and their sound are fantastic, loved them from the 1980’s. Hugely underrated but I believe that’s the way the band and fans like it. The hype sticker says it has been mastered at Abbey Road studios for improved sound. I think that tells us that they have tried to get a dynamic sound off whatever the master is at this point? Is it a master tape or a digital file at this moment in time. Overall I find it decent sounding LP , nothing amazingly special but I think this is as good as it gets for us fans my gut feeling is that this is as good as it will ever sound. Enjoy it - nobody is making this kind of stuff currently.

Edited one year agoI don't know the green vinyl version but not long ago I listened to an old original pressing (probably a German pressing) which sounded not very good.
Sticker of the new red vinyl version says "Mastered for improved sound at Abbey Road". The treble range is clear but maybe a little bit too loud at cost of the low frequency range, especially the drums sound a bit thin - although the hi hats /cymbals sound crystal clear.
I then compared the sound with my original CD version (GE 1990) and it sounds similar - strong treble range and weak low frequency range.
So, I assume, this is the best you could unearth from the original recording.
By the way: the pressing is decent, no pops or ticks audible. -
I’d be pretty much interested in the sound quality of this 2LP. According to previously available information it uses the identical weak and very bad sounding remaster of the green vinyl version released a couple of years ago.
