Edited one month agoIn a world of pointless reissues (I'm looking your way Sire) this one is different. Having been originally issued with a hard panning of guitar and bass (on purpose) it's cool to hear everything front and center. Johnny's guitar is much more impactful in mono, well, everything thing is more impactful here. Might've been cut a little hot but I still like it a lot. And the red color is fun as well as the 7" (7" would've been more special with a company sleeve...). I will definitely listen to this version often. If the day comes they do a "modern" stereo mix of this I'll buy that too. A record of this importance deserves all three mixes, imho.
*it's important to listen to this with a proper mono signal. Easily achieved with two rca "y" cables. -
Great version here. More emphasis in the bass and kick than the digital version. Guitars are lower in the mix but still very aggressive. Vinyl from Rhino is flat, no debris, and plays perfectly. A+

Definitely interesting to hear in mono, and it gives more of the AM radio feel they surely wanted. I'm not sure I prefer it to stereo but it's worthwhile.

Still available at the rhino store for 25 dollars. With shipping to Uk it cost £34 and took 2 weeks. Definitely worth it!

1 2 3 4!!!
Dare I say this is THE Ramones debut copy to get… a FANTASTIC Mono pressing, dead quiet, flat and DYNAMIC… Proof that mono can be very dynamic! Don’t care usually for color vinyl but this one looks class. Grab while it lasts. Nice 7” to boot too… -

THIS is how the stereo mix SHOULD have sounded in 1976.
Like many others I was underwhelmed on hearing the first LP back in the day - it didn’t compare sonically to “Leave Home” or "Rocket To Russia” - and my taste wasn’t mature enough at that time to realise that this was the best album they would ever release.
FFWD to 47 years after first hearing the album, and THIS LP is the BOMB!!*
So pleased to have this edition as part of my collection.
(Digital/ streaming fans please note that if you “ask Siri” when using HomePod/ Apple Music THIS is the version of the album you hear. Nice!)
*first heard the OG LP in ’77, first heard this mix on the 2016 remaster. -
