Notes

Journey's eighth album, released in July of 1981, and generally considered the band's breakthrough album, launching them from moderate success to superstardom. Upon retiring from the band, keyboardist and vocalist Gregg Rolie recommended The Baby's Jonathan Cain as his replacement. Cain developed a songwriting partnership with vocalist Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon that pushed the band in the direction of hook-heavy arena rock. The album was a massive hit on release, reaching #1 on the Billboard charts, and spawning three Top 10 singles (Live In Houston 1981 Escape Tour, recorded during the Escape tour.

When I first got back into vinyl I didn't do any homework and started bulk buying new stuff thinking new would be the best sounding. I was wrong of course. Most of what I bought back then I've since gotten rid of for better sounding presses, except this....I got lucky with this one. This press is qual-i-ty. If you like this record, this is THE one.

Surprisingly impressive pressing. A bit of surface noise, but very slight. A touch too compressed as the low-end is a tad thin, but the vocals are vibrant and the whole is very clean sounding. Good dynamics overall and stands up well on a good system.

Best pressing I’ve ever heard of this classic. Even better than the crappy MOFI from the 80’s

Great pressing that I have had since 2022 and the quality is impressive, everything is in its place, I don't think you will be able to hear the title "Escape" with such quality and so much emotion, I have several different sources of this album and none of them reach the author of this one. On the other hand, for the title "who's crying now" it is a slightly different version from the one we hear on cd or repress but it is very good and I am happy to find it on this record. I recommend this press for those who like this group.

This one is an 80s classic. Does this CD have Pre-Emphasis?

Just picked up a pristine copy of this Mastersound. I now have a few of this Mastersound series and they are generally a significant step up in sound quality. Mine has none of the issues mentioned. No skips, no issues whatsoever. I'm surprised this doesn't have a higher rating. It sounds fantastic and easily beats my regular OG copy. The guitar rifts are soaring, and the bass is deep and tight. Can't imagine this sounding better. The 2010 Kevin Gray remaster very well might beat it, but it is out of my price range

As much as I love this band, the Steve Perry comeback album "Trial By Fire" is the only Journey album. I could ever give more than three stars to. This album being a perfect example of why I feel that way.. Escape contains five of the band's best and most beloved songs. If they had dumped "Keep on Running onto side B where it belongs and moved "Open Arms" to the end of side A, you'd have have one ittedly strange paced, yet almost perfect side A tracklists from the best band to ever play this brand of 80's rock n' roll. That would leave you with a complete B side of filler that you only wasted time listening to once. Instead, you have to walk your lazy ass to your turn table, flip the album, and either listen to 4 all filler and zero killer songs or jack up you need or the record for attempting to hear "Open Arms" without wasting 15 minutes of your life. Get the greatest hits, and you'll get the songs that most likely caught your ear to begin with.

Finally gave this a listen and yeah, it's awesome. Of course the album itself is legendary, but the original pressing sure is sweet. Terra Haute does itself proud here.

This also has CB in the deadwax, meaning it was cut by Chris Bellman, same as the US version.

A very neutral remaster, crystal clear and pressed very nicely but for me it could have done with a little more bass. The driving bass in don’t stop is epic but on this edition is slightly anonymous sadly. I have a powerful pre /power amp combo with floorstanders (towers) so I can imagine with a smaller setup you might be disappointed in the remaster. Previous comment is correct, I have to push the volume higher compared to other records in my collection to get the result I want.
