Just as my other LCD records, it sounds great! And for the price it’s real worth it. Perhaps a lyric sheet would have been great and also the singles leading up to the record such as losing my edge and beat connection which are on the CD version. However, much of those 7 tracks are lengthy and perhaps it would need to be on 2 more LP’s which would make this much more expensive. Can’t complaint too much about this release. Great stuff!

Why DFA have stayed with the single-LP version of this is beyond me. This is how it should be heard.

referencing LCD Soundsystem (LP, Album, Gatefold) dfa 2138
Never heard this band before, what a pleasant surprise, great album and no noticeable artifacts very clear. The album itself is an easy listen and a trip that somehow feels timeless. -
I have no idea why half the tracks are missing from this edition - 9 tracks instead of the 16 on the original release

Edited one year agoI bought this when it dropped. Good album with a low-fi feel but clever production from musical magie James Murphy and DFA.
I love that old 70s EMI logo they used back in the early 00s for a time. -
The change around 2003 in all the electronic scene to make everything sound "real" and "organic" had its peak in the James Murphy label/scene/band/productions/etc and quite a hype in this first LP. As the rest of the scene was doing, they replicated the dance/punk scene of Liquid Liquid/Gang of Four/Au Pairs/Delta 5/pick your band here and added just a bit more of ravey attitude in their use of samples, the retro synths and the repetition of phrases until fade. There is a huge nod to the electroclash scene in "Tribulations", probably the single I had to listen the most every weekend after this album was released [aclaration here of something that I came to realise was very local: in Spain the electroclash and dance punk scene hit very very hard, but it converged in a series of clubs where the djs ended up playing exactly the same hits in the same order weekend after weekend because if not people got bored instantly, and that lasted for around 10 years - it was the only way to listen to this music and you only could listen to these same hits, meanwhile it was festivals and live shows where you saw how good the scene could get] but most of the (double?) album is filled with those long dance developments, which at the time were defended awesomely in their live shows (way more restrained lately). And the weird Beatle-esque "Never as Tired as When I'm Waking up", which actually works.
It is just too good of a collection of tunes to let it , though the discourse of "this is too dancey/this is not electronic/ this is for the masses" still prevails. As a note, on NYD I was on a party where the dj dropped the Tiga remix of Tribulations and I found myself being the only one singing the lyrics (contrary to some other Madonna or Kylie edits) which makes me think that no, this was not as mainstream as it was accused to be.
Some more notes: there is a clear influence as well of The Fall (Losing my Edge being the clear example) which motivated Mark E. Smith to do something similar to this album when he gathered Mouse on Mars to make that other wonderful oddity called "Von Sudenfed". And Yr City's a Sucker is wonderful and mostly forgotten - when they played it at SNL many fans said "I have been a fan of LCD Soundsystem for ages and I never knew about that song" which brings me to my other thought that most of fans of anything only know that something very superficially and for the looks. Rant/review off. -
everything about this release from the mastering to the QC and packaging is top notch, especially given the price point. the record itself even feels sturdier than most, almost like an old shellac 78. buy with zero hesitation.

i can't believe after all this time we haven't gotten a complete vinyl release with the added singles
-
Sounds clean from the needle drop.
Excellent mix and volume leveling overall. It helps if you move all the furniture to the garage.
