Notes
Chill Out is the third studio album by The KLF, released in February 1990.
It is one of the earliest ambient house concept albums, portraying a mythical night-time journey throughout the U.S. Gulf Coast states, beginning in Texas and ending in Louisiana.
The album was conceived as a continuous piece of music, reportedly recorded in a 44-minute live take, with original KLF music interwoven with samples from songs by Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Acker Bilk, Van Halen, 808 State, field recordings of Tuvan throat singers, American, British and Russian radio broadcasts and sound effects taken from Jac Holzman - Authentic Sound Effects Volume 2.
It incorporates elements or melodies from the "Pure Trance" singles 3 A.M. Eternal and Last Train To Trancentral.
A revised version, credited to The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu and titled Come Down Dawn was released on streaming platforms on February 4, 2021 ("the day before Chill Out, but 31 years later") as part of the Samplecity Thru Trancentral reissue series.
Most notably Come Down Dawn is stripped of the most distinctive samples (Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, etc.) and includes excerpts from What Time Is Love?

So much has been written and said apropos the KLF (also known as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, furthermore known as The JAMs) – from their incineration of a million pounds to pioneering of sampling, from their book and film to that still-unreleased thrash metal album. It is at least arguable though, that their greatest achievement was the ‘Chill Out’ concept album, even if there is also conjecture as to how much of its 45 minutes was actually the creation of Drummond and Cauty themselves.
With an array of chaotic titles (‘Brownsville Turnaround on the Tex-Mex Border’, ‘A Melody from a Past Life Keeps Pulling Me Back’, ‘Rock Radio into the Nineties and Beyond’) and hugely varying song lengths – half the 14 tracks are two minutes or under, just three extend past four – the start-of-decade opus serves as ing material for post-rave drives and those early morning roams around the land. While the 3AMs and Trancentrals were aimed for maximum accessibility and extremum crossover yield, there is deeper emotional complexity in ‘Madrugada Eterna’ (Spanish for “Eternally Dawn”) and ‘3AM Somewhere out of Beaumont’, clocking in at a combined 17 and a half minutes. KLF is gonna rock ya! -
I see it says unknown year but I bought this in mid 1990's in a record shop in Dublin. Its an old bootleg and sounds great.

A lot of noise, not a clean copy, despite the cleaning i have done because it's not made from a good material,Sadly i threw it to the garbage and seeking for an original

Please repress this iconic record! The world needs this right now -

As noted, the US release has a car sample removed, which is harmless enough on CD. It'd be more important on vinyl though, with side B opening with the car starting again, making the side flip a thematic pit stop.
Only problem with my theory is that the sample is that the end of Side A on the UK vinyl. Doh. -

My vinyl copy, that I bought in Tower Records in Glasgow in early 1991, has a sticker on the front that says “File Under Ancient” rather than “File Under Ambient”. Anyone know if this is rarer than the “File Under Ambient” version?
It still has the Tower Records price sticker with the date etc….a whole £7.99! -

Some copies came with an alternate sticker with "File Under Ancient" on it instead of "File Under Ambient". -

A lot of surface noise on my copy - have I just been unlucky? -
