An "important" release for several reasons. The importance of "Listen To The Drummer" in the evolution of the Breaks genre is often discussed.
But "" marked the return of John Foxx back to music itself. He claimed that he grew so tired and bored of music during the mid-80s that he had completely abandoned it.
It was the beginning of House, Acid and Bleep/Bass that ignited his creative spark again.
And what a spark it´s been!
sounds like Metamatic catapulted 200 years into the future. Foxx voice sound like his memory implant and his voice chip are both suffering an identity crisis.
The music swooshes, blips and gallops as if trying to a forgotten rhythm while a menacing, 3-note bassline repeats itself like a malfunctioning machine.
Oh, and the original sleeve is a Designers Republic gem with a whole 2nd glossy design printed over the matte graphics. -
Bassline / Riff of '' is practically 1st Bass on Separate Minds - We Need Somebody, replayed.

Edited 18 years agoThe flipside "Listen to the Drummer" is a true classic underground breakbeat/house tune way ahead of it's time. This tune along with others like it provided a blueprint for the "breaks" genre, paving the way for the success of artists like DJ Icey, The Bassbin Twins and Fatboy Slim to name a few.
