Edited 11 years agoAgree with Soleilnoir.mailorder with the microscopic description. Its as if you have lifted up a rock and found a self contained ecosystem of ambient/psytrance. quieter but not less profound than any other ultimae release. This is definitely in my top 5.
'White Pixels' has took me on one of the best musical journeys I've ever been on. -
Edited 13 years agoIn my opinion, this is the deepest sound on Ultimae Records. Carefully processed sonic landscapes.
It's a truly decent record. -
As stated below this is perhaps one of the most quiet, almost microscopic release Ultimae Recordings offered so far. The subtelty of some sounds is not far from being subliminal, however, they are far from being unnoticed. Sometimes it seems that sounds succeed in conveying a "transparent" texture, like hearing sound turning into glass, which pushes forward the idea of what can be achieved with great ideas and incredible production. A delicate journey into the poetics of tiny electronic swells, thin lines and liminal hypnosis.

Edited 18 years agoFirst thing is first. There will be an obvious comparision for this album and Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers.
Honestly, in my opinion, Source blows W.O.S. right out of the water (now Hydroponic garden is another story). Source is much more quiet and ambient then anything Carbon Based Lifeforms has released. It lacks the acid beats for the most part, and relies on atmosphere much more. The result is quite pleasing and its almost like a Carbon Based Lifeforms Jr. Some people might take offense to that and claim this is a separate outing completely. However, Daniel himself said the album is at least 50% CBL sound.
In either case, its a safe bet if you're a fan of CBL or Ultimae in general, then you'll love this album. Standouts for me are "Memloop" with its hypnotic beat pattern and "mBorg" for its warm IDM sound.
