To anyone who used to go to Brixton Academy to see these guys - drop one or two and just chill I tip my cap to you. And to the Whirl-y-gig crew at Shoreditch Town Hall peace out. A sublime antidote to Thursdays at RAGE and Fridays at Club UK or Vivid. This tune will send me on my way when the time comes.

Edited 12 months agoIt's probably a complete coincidence but the Italo-Disco cut by Koto "Chinese Revenge" sounds like it could've been inspiration
-
am i just imagining it but was there a very long version of this? about 20mins?sure i heard on john peel, something like the 'ultrabrain remix'

Edited 4 years ago"Little Fluffy Clouds (Ambient Mk 1)" ends with a fade-out after about 4½ minutes just when the beat enters, probably due to Gallup chart regulations that would not allow a "Single" to be longer than 20 minutes. The full 9 (!) minute version was inconspicuously and exclusively released years later on the Beechwood Compilation This Is... Techno, which is worth getting alone for this track and for the only (non-DJ mixed) CD appearance of Carl Craig's mindblowing "Drums Suck" mix of Dave Angel's "Airbourne".

Trackology:
Ignoring the cataloguing and re-releases there are basically three sets/versions;
The UK ver and remix (numbered versions c/w Into the fourth...)
The US ver and remix (named versions by Coldcut) annoying spread over 2 near identical 12" and cd
and the later US/Island mixes.
<
Confusingly the short version/main mix is called both the "Dance Mix MK I Edit" and the "Seven Inch Mk 1" -
I don't know much about this type of music but I can tell you that I think "Little Fluffy Clouds (Dance MK II)" is a great Ambient-ish track. I like how catchy it is and how it carries you through the whole song. I can never get tired of this single.

The entire theme, including the bassline, is from a traditional Hindu song, originally written for sitar and other traditional instruments. The lyrics have been added later and were not part of the original.
-
Samples Steve Reich - Counterpoint (part two, I think). I think that The Orb got into a lot of trouble for it.
