I agree with everything mikeSF has said. This is horribly compressed and very bright. I do not play this as a result. I go with the 24/96 Qobuzz . Very disappointed in the sound of this pressing. Born To Run deserves something MUCH better than this.

Edited 3 years agoThis is a classic record for sure. Everybody should own this.
Sonically, it is an assault on the ears. Fairly continuous loud ages of heavily layered instruments with only very brief let-ups. I detect some clipping in the lowest frequencies, bass and kick. A decent amount of compression, including on the vocals. This is the only record I own that gives me ear fatigue. On some songs, the snare lacks definition; That could be an issue in tracking though.
By the time Randy Brecker starts his solo, my ears are welcoming the respite. I'd suggest perhaps I'm too old, but I'm also reviewing my Ramones and Sabbath albums without any complaints. -
I think the biggest pull of these reissues is the quiet vinyl since there's so many beat up Springsteen copies out there. It is clearly digital and the vocals don't sound too good on songs like Night, but for the price it's a bargain. Most of it sounds great aside from some vocal compression on a few tracks.

Edited 5 years agoThis is fantastic sounding press for the price (I got it for around $15 on Amazon). Quiet, nice and heavy. While not entirely a AAA pressing/master, that Plangent Process does wonders. I swear I'm hearing stuff I have never heard on my old beat up press. I'm gonna have to pick up Nebraska and a couple of the other classics. I highly recommend this press.
Update: I did a comparison between this press and an original using Tenth Avenue Freeze Out. The 2014 Press is a lot more clean, defined and balanced. While there's a little compression on this newer press, it sound's way cleaner compared to the OG press. The OG press sounds dirty, maybe even a little muddy at times. Maybe it's just my copy (I don't know), but the 2014 press is definitely a worthwhile listen. -

This s**t should be a f**kin no-brainer son! TENTH AVENUE FREEZE OUT! Never sounded so good! This remaster is audiophile quality for a hell of a price. You get one quiet pressing with great dynamics and a beautiful soundstage. The bass is full, drums punchy, piano bright, overall rich, high definition tones. Bruce's voice shines. If I have any complaint it's that the vocals on "Night" sound a little compressed and some of the instrumentation on that track can get a little muddy. But overall I really enjoy this reissue and hearing the songs like this.

Brilliant pressing! This is the best Bruce has ever sounded on any other vinyl i have. No surface noise. Just great sound. regretting the fact i didn't pick up the Born in the USA re-issue as my original pressing is old and noisy.
