interesting to think of 'what if' Peter Hook became lead singer -- Sumner was probably the right choice but Hook's two contributions here are wonderful -- Dreams Never End always rings true.

I always thought of this as a low-fi album, but that's because I mainly listened to my copy of this on cassette. This pressing sounds great. Dense, yes, but with a huge and dynamic sound on a well-setup system.

So many reviews out there proclaiming this as a mediocre album. I have a hard time understanding that point of view. Legitimately exciting music, humming with tension and wringing maximum interest from super spare arrangements. Apparently the band's final outing with Martin Hannett. As difficult as their relationship apparently was at this point, it doesn't seem to've hampered his genius. My copy of the 1st US pressing sounds truly spectacular.
