Edited 10 months agoAgree with the others here. This is the pressing to rule them all! For comparison I've listened to the Japanese 1st press on Philips and the 1980 NEMS SP18 series. Also have a US greenie, the Kevin Grey Rhino and the most recent remasterings in blue vinyl and the version in the box set.
This UK is amazing. The detail, clarity and airiness is astounding. You really hear the depth and air of the bass drum in Iron Man rather than just a loud thud. The crispness of Bill's snare is fantastic as is the clarity in Geezer's bass lines. You can really hear him hammering away on the strings.
The Japanese NEMS SP18 is about the closest to the UK of my copies. That Japanese reissue seems to be cut from the UK tape used for this pressing. It sounds very similar but has less definition (perhaps it's a dub of the UK cutting tape). The volume shift in War Pigs is gradual and subtle compared to what's on the US tape.
The KG Rhino is just a bit too bright for me. It's like he was trying to remove the sludge from the US tape but went a little too far. Although I think that's more apparent if you've heard the UK tape.
Anyway, I just love this UK pressing. Absolutely my go to when I want to listen to this album! -

Found this album out in the wild. I am listening to it as I type. My jaw is on the floor. The bottom end dynamics are incredible. This is the closest thing to a master tape of paranoid that is available. My Technics SL1200gr and gold ring 1042 are pulling details I’ve never heard before. Worth every penny!
