Alternates and outtakes from some of Blue Note’s most popular records. Great mastering & pressing; my copy is flat, silent, and dynamic. The music itself is classic hard bop. If you dig this stuff (and I most certainly do), this record is a great listen and an absolute bargain.

Edited 28 days agoI was very excited to see this album on the list for RSD. These songs fill some gaps in my collection since these tracks are available on CD or streaming but not necessarily on the same releases on vinyl. Ultimately, this collection ends up being an eclectic sample of some Blue Note heavy hitters. I'd actually recommend this album as a place to start for people who might not be into hard bop or jazz yet. It's a fun introduction! Love the opaque blue vinyl, too.

Edited one month agoOne piece of noise at the end of side 1. Despite cleaning multiple times via ultrasonic cleaner, it's still there. I'm not returning it but its still disappointing because the rest of this album is absolutely stellar. Anyone know about the QC at this plant in Guadalajara? Never heard of it before today.

Anyone know where this US version was pressed? There's a visible blue text on the back (on the plastic wrap) that says VINYL MADE IN MEXICO. Just curious which plant did the job.
Very good musical choices for this release! -
This is cool! Interesting alt takes of some well-known tunes. The Grant Green selection is fantastic, he's really burning and the tempo seems to be picked up on this version. Love the Wayne Shorter track as well. Just for the two tunes it's worth buying this album. Excellent sound and pressing cut by Kevin Gray who did a stellar job. Glad I picked this up and I look forward to hearing what's different on these tunes. Probably for jazz nerds only, stream it and if it's your thing buy it!

Typical Blue Note quality. Quiet pressing, great sound. An excellent compilation. All songs we've heard before, all wonderful.
