Very interesting release. I think that release was once going to be named "Beauty"

Ah, yes. My favorite VSnares album, and my first purchase off this site. Where do I begin?
Well, let's begin with the art. The album sounds how the art looks: beautiful, chrome, manufactured, abstract.
This is like if Confield & Amber had a baby.
Need I say any further?
Pick this up if you get the chance. -
Edited 7 years agoOne of snares weaker releases. Sounds like he got a hold of Drukqs and tried to bite the style... but biting Aphex is not so easy. Tracks 2-4 are the keepers here. Sound design is very well done.

HUGE CHROME CYLINDER BOX UNFOLDING shows Venetian Snares moving in a much more melodic direction, his trademark breakbeats for the most part unabated. "Huge Chrome Peach" sounds much more like classic Warp-era IDM, Indeed, "Bonivital" has Arovane-type grandeur with Venetian Snares-type percussion, while "Cium Lung Jacket" has a darker edge to it. The glitch influence is much more prominent too, as with the blipped-out "Li₂CO₃." His love of video games also infiltrates the album in the form of split-second samples. "Destroy Glass Castles" brings in some of the chaos of his earlier work, but it's more controlled and not as superfluous. The meandering synth on "Bent Annick," for instance, is reined in by a melodic line, and "Aaron" has a music-box quality to it. A huge step in of quality for Mr. Funk.

Edited 20 years agothe two sides of VS have been evident from the start of his musical career theres the speedbrakeravenoizecore sound of orange things and doll doll doll, but for albums like songs about my cats, Huge Chrome..., The horse and goat E.P we get the glitchblipblop sound of something else, still with the rapid programming but you get a lot less blood coming out of your ears, and a far more abundent sense of melody, i'd like to see more concept albums like cats and nimphamatriarch thats when it becomes more than music.

Edited 20 years agoSimply incredible album. Melodic strings mangled with breaks and glitch. Goes straight to the veins. Has been in my cd-player for days non-stop. Very recommended!

Edited 20 years agoNo gabber here ... one of the best recent "electronica"-albums.
Songs with Mr.Funk's impressive, harsh breakprogramming get soothed and depth by melodic landscapes of simple synth-sounds. Has nice samples too ( Get the coin! ).
