Reviews

Quality pressing. Did not hear any clicks as previous review mentioned. Not even comparable to the poor pressing of THE HITS VOL 1/2. The purple looks amazing
-
Mastering is excellent imo as you would expect from KPG, don’t think it sounds flat at all as one mentioned below. It does have a bit of a “digital” tinge to it, but I think that’s the 80s production not the fact that it was cut from a digital file.
But yes unfortunately I have the same issue on Side 2 as others mentioned below. A lot of clicks especially on When Doves Cry. Side 1 did have visible scratches on it but played through great except for one click. -
Bought mine from a Target brand new, side 1 plays perfect apart from the second track due static, side 2…I played the first few minutes only two listen to a lot of back ground noise/static, upon inspection side 2 has a lot of marks which do not move after clean, should not have ed QC
I’d return it, but unfortunately I was ing thru Syracuse from Florida to Canada so no joy on that one, not even going to sell it on, destined for my local charity shop. Unfortunate as this is a great album. -
I had back-to-back copies purchased new from Target.com where the LP had a “haze” (smudges) that wouldn’t clean off causing surface noise which is disappointing because this release is really well done. Looks like some others have reported that he same.
Hopefully it’s just a few bad copies and not widespread. -
Edited one year agoFantastic press, looks gorgeous and sounds great. Only complaint is someone decided to put the barcode and made in stickers ON THE ACTUAL SLEEVE and I still can’t fully get them off. Absolutely ridiculous. Also two pretty big scuffs on die 4 u but they aren’t really audible so it’s not an issue for me. Otherwise this is a great press. Mine looks kinda different from the one pictured here, a bit lighter and when backlit I don’t see any black marbling, appears to just be clear/clear purple marbling on mine.

This is a beautiful looking and sounding pressing. The purple vinyl and the label are stunning. Got this from Target as well. I know there are better sounding pressings but I'm happy with this one. Back cover is shiny and beautiful as well.
-
This purple gem is a quality pressing. Everything sounds crisp, no pops or noise. I bought this one new from Target and it came out of the sleeve smudged/scuffed on Side B, but not even a wash would get rid of them. Otherwise, the album looks and plays beautifully. Extra props for the awesome poster of Prince and the Revolution included in the sleeve.

Nice thick beautiful slab of wax, and no complaints about how it sounds either. Less compressed than I'm used to, more dynamic and full bodied. My copy was purchased "like new" but has a few scuffs on each side and a skip on "When Doves Cry"...but for $14 I'll survive.

I just received a sealed copy of this and I must say Kevin Grey did a fantastic job - despite the master being sourced from the Paisley Park digital masters (and not the original analogue ones)
The kick drum has never sounded bigger and the heavily compressed parts of some of the mixes (end of Let’s Go Crazy, the double kick drums and distorted reverbs on Darling Nikki, the crescendo on Purple Rain) have never sounded better on vinyl.
I must say I was expecting nasty IGD on Darling Nikki as the original certainly suffered from this, but alas I was surprised to hear no IGD and no sibilance on this cut.
The purple smoke is a nice touch, as is the foil cover and inclusion of a reproduction of the original poster.
It’s a fantastic pickup if you come across it.
One minor quibble: typical MPO color pressings tend to have a hi noise floor and at times this is no exception but it doesn’t detract from the listening experience at all. Otherwise my record was flawless. -
The audio quality of this pressing is fine. The color variant is spectacular. I know, vinyl visuals are secondary to audio. But I can’t imagine a better color theme for this album.
