First gig I ever played I opened with Break Da 80's....it was a MADNESS. Entire record is total class 👌🏼

First bought this EP in 1994. I was lucky enough to play Break Da 80s out one night at a club reopening. It was a small, but popular club. The DJ ahead of me was hogging his slot and was late giving up the decks. People will milling around, drinking, talking, leaning on walls. There was maybe two people dancing. He had been playing cheesy breaks. Finally, he got tired of me bothering him and relinquished the decks. I was going to try to mix into his final track, but my style was a totally different tone. So I put away the record I was working with pulled out this EP. I faded out of his track gave it a count of 3 and hit the start button on my record. After the opening sample on Break Da 80s and the beat dropped, a loud "WOOOOOOO!" from the crowd rose up and everyone in the place rushed the floor. It was satisfying. Made my night.

Just imagine yourself as a working dj back in 1994 (No CD, No MP3, No Internet) and this little beaut comes to your record shop !! ... Holi crap, the show must go on !! .. The original "Witch Doktor" the superfunky tribal "Nrongo Ra Mrongo" the baadtasticdisco of "Break Da 80's" ... Neat stuff :):) ... // Tommy

My friend and I happened to find this EP a couple of years ago in a dollar rack outside of a shop. A gem of a find if I do say so myself.

Nrongo Ra Mrongo definitely qualifies for tribal house. Great track that just made its revival out of the stacks :)

DOPED! All tracks are fantastic, true house of the 90's. Armand Van Helden kicks hard! Still fresh, almost 20 years after.

Edited 18 years agoThe true gemstone on here to me seems to be "I feel it" - wicked screams, filtered organ sounds and a hypnotic up-and-down theough the whole bangin' track still sound fresh today...

Edited 20 years agoA classic from the '95 house daze!
Why? Hear 'Break Da 80's' - A true homage to the 80's electro explosion with big samples from Tyrone Brunson's 'The Smurf' & Bambaata's 'Planet Rock', to name a couple.
Of course, we all know The Witch Doktor.. A great EP.
