Finally the stars aligned, I had some spare cash and could get my hands on this from a UK seller
...it's not representative of the general thrust of my collection but hey, it connects with something deep down inside me, not exactly primal, but i'd say infantile - kinda like a fairground thrill - I mean that in the best way - this is exciting music from a super dynamic trio - fully engaging - dig it! -
I commend Third Man for reissuing this album on LP. This is one of those LPs that I put off buying and it went out of stock. Luckily there's been a restock. I'll have to look out for a restock of er too.
This is a good sounding pressing in my opinion. I haven't heard the original Japanese pressing to compare it to but I doubt it sounds £300 better. Especially due to the way it's recorded.
The vinyl comes dirty out of the cheap paper inner sleeve, so it is essential that you give it a clean and house it in a poly inner. Once you've given it a clean and a playthrough, most of the unwanted surface noise should be gone.
As others have pointed out it does have low volume and you'll have to crank it, much like the Flood album. This isn't much of a problem once you've cleared all the paper shards out the grooves. It sounds great. Nice Stoughton tip-on jacket too. Happy to have this album on LP finally, I've lived with the Southern Lord CD for years. -
Just restocked. This record is NOT out of print or limited. It is in stock on Third Man records site. If it goes out of stock, make sure to be on the email list for restock updates.

Edited 3 years agoKind of "amazing" to see people complaining about a "noisy" or "muddy" sounding press when the recording itself sounds essentially like a rehearsal that's been slammed to hell. The record sounds fine for what it is btw...

I want to personally strangle every scalper I see, I'm so upset that I didnt pick this up when it was readily available in record stores near me and now people are overpricing the hell out of it for no good reason.
-
I’m hesitant to buy this based on the Third Man pressing of Melvin’s being pretty trashy. Do people think this is worthwhile? Can’t shell out for an OG
-
Low volume and very noisy. Glad to still have a easily accessible repressing of this, but damn this could have been better
-
Pretty happy with this pressing. Comes in an old style tip on jacket and the vinyl sounds good, no surface noise at all. Glad to have a copy in the collection.

Edited 5 years agoLIke the other reviews here, volume is definitely lower than most, but my pressing was pretty clean and devoid of any pops or crackles. Sans the volume problems, the sonics were pretty good. Not muddy or anything for me.
