one thing really pathetic about this release is this total crap packaging. You are going to either ruin the booklet or bust a disc trying to get the disc and booklet out. You would think VP would have this together but total JA style, just a total piece of crap as far as packaging goes.

Edited 3 years agoRenatar's comments cover the "original mix", but if anyone is wondering about how the mastering of the "release mix" compares to the BAF release (https://discogs.cinepelis.org/release/13109982-The-Congos-Heart-Of-The-Congos), it is practically indistinguishable to both my ears and every tool I can run the waveform through - so get whichever one you can, they're virtually identical in of mastering.
I personally plan to stick with this one, because it has everything from the BAF release and more. -
On CD 3 (original 1977 mix) of this 2017 40th Anniversary 3 CD set there is an obvious glitch/cut on "Congoman" at 06:15. Is this also on the original 1977 Black Ark LP and the 2017 Record Store Day single LP of the original mix?

For those wondering how the audio quality of the original mix presented here stacks up to the 2004 bootleg: The Congos - Heart Of The Congos (Lee Perry's Lost Original Mix!).
This official issue uses quite a bit of noise reduction which makes the listening experience less harsh. The 2004 bootleg is harsher on the ears but does preserve more details and clarity. Decide wether you prefer a smooth listen over extra clarity but noise/distortion. Do not expect master-tape like quality, they are presumed lost.
