Notes
Three was produced as a 12 inch and subsequently a 7 inch, with an initial run of 1,000 individually numbered copies. It has been reissued four times since then, but it remains a hard item to track down and wasn't released on CD until 2008 as part of the bonus disc with the reissue of Boy, U2's first album. The track order was determined by a listener poll on Dave Fanning's radio show. Callers chose "Out of Control" to be the A-side of the record, with "Boy/Girl" and "Stories for Boys" as runners-up, constituting the B-side of the record.
About the 12" version:
1. U2 - Three - First release, 1000 copies made, is numbered with sticker on CBS sleeve. Band names inscribed on both sides of the vinyl in the dead wax. Ireland spelled correctly on label, "Made in England" on bottom.
All reissues were re-released without sticker and with Ireland misspelled (Irelnad) on CBS sunburst label:
2. U2 - Out Of Control - Early reissue in CBS sleeve. Band names inscribed on both sides and “Made in England” on label bottom.
3. U2 - Out Of Control - Reissue in CBS sleeve. Band names inscribed on side B only and “Made in England” on label bottom.
4. U2 - Out Of Control - Another reissue in CBS sleeve. Band names inscribed on side B only. No “Made in England” on bottom, but on the side at the end of the circle linings.
5. U2 - Out Of Control - Later reissue in black die-cut sleeve. Band names inscribed on side B only. No “Made in England” on bottom, but on the label side at the end of the circle linings. "CBS Inc." on label bottom.
6. U2 - Out Of Control - Label variant: Side A: "Made In England" on label rim. "CBS Inc" on bottom of label. Side B: No "Made In England" and No 'CBS Inc". So label A side from issue 5 and label B-side from issue 6.
About the 7" version:
First release has UKTM number on CBS sunburst label and "GRAFOTONE" written on back cover and double thumbcut in cover.

referencing Three (7", 45 RPM, Single, Reissue) CBS 7951
It took me 26 years of ownership to know that it is in translucent dark brown. I thought it was black until I put it against a strong back light. Almost imperceptible. -
person who bought it for 16 pounds is the luckiest person in the world

My one has:
Generic black cover
Ireland is misspelled (both sides)
No bandmember's names (both sides)
Stereo in bold (both sides)
CBS Inc. present on bottom of labels (both sides)

Quite frustrated with this release for one specific reason; I purchased my copy from a local record store used and was very disappointed to learn that the record's serialization was printed on the sticker on the shrink wrap, meaning that my used copy's number is gone forever. I had no idea this was a serialized/numbered release until I added it to my discogs collection and saw the tag. I really wish that the number was printed somewhere on the record's sleeve! Besides this, solid release and sounds great! -
