Missed out on this on release, and no copies were available on any retail sites or marketplaces anywhere for ages. But a new/sealed copy randomly popped up on Rarewaves last week for £28 so immediately grabbed it. It’s a wonderful pressing - sounds excellent straight out of the sleeve. The textured sleeve is a great addition (just like the recent MOV marbled reissue of Deodato’s ‘Prelude’). The vinyl itself is flat and clean, and the marbling has the effect of…well…’red clay’. Perfect!

Had this on CD for many years and has been thereabouts as my favourite jazz album… but this MOV release takes to another fucking level!! Sitting in my listening room with a long glass of very smooth whiskey simply matches the sounds emanating from!! Dig it!

referencing Red Clay (LP, Album, Stereo, Gatefold) CTI 6001
A particularly great album, served well by this pressing. To my ears, better than my previous yellow label CTI press, but still yet to be compared to an OG green label or ORG Remaster.
I can however say, this sounds phenomenal for a CTI press which I find to usually lack in dynamics.

This is one heck of a pressing. “Delphia” has some annoying hiss in the background , but overall this sounds truly great. The total package is top notch. -

The texture is a real nice detail on the packaging and mastering sounds really warm and balanced. Funny that it’s quieter than one of my UHQR presses. Highly recommend.

I am not sure why Japanese mastering engineers are compressing jazz?
This has more compression and limiting than other currently available versions, so I'd skip it. -
When I heard MOV were reissuing this I had to get it. AND it's utterly superb. Dead flat, lovely textured gatefold cover. The colour of the vinyl is more a dirty red than gold and red but hey! Buy buy buy!

As others have said this recording sounds great! I notice a little better instrument separation than my 70s pressing, great bass presence and clear kick drum as well. Freddie's trumpet playing on this is outstanding and props to Ron Carter, I think this has some of his best bass lines of any record he's on. He really drives the music. Just an all around great Jazz record. Glad I picked this up, MOV did a great job. Nice Linen feeling cover as well. Good stuff!
