Notes
After the mellow techno theme "Pacific State" from the Quadrastate EP made a splash, 808 State signed to ZTT and released remixes under the title "Pacific".
1989 versions:
Pacific State (origin) is the original version from Quadrastate, and Pacific B is an edit thereof. Pacific 202 is the popular remix featured on the 90 album, and Pacific 707 is an edit of it. Pacific 303 has stronger percussion than 202 & 707, but is otherwise not that different. 202, 707 and 303 all pitch up the song's signature chords and loon samples, replace the original's saxophone with a clarinet, redo the percussion in a softer yet more frenetic style, and replace the original's deep bassline with a vaguely "acid"-style synth line in a higher . Pacific 909 and the bonus bird beats together form one long, "deep" house remix with more improvised parts and atmospheric effects, but feature the original saxophone and a lower-pitch version of the 202 synth line.
1990 versions:
Pacific 0101, 212, and 516 are Justin Strauss remixes which all use the clarinet and loon samples from 202, but restore and more prominently feature the original bassline, and use percussion more akin to the original. Pacific 718 and Pacific Break, both by Musto & Bones, ditch most of the improvisational elements altogether, and rework the song's chords and background elements into a dense, hypnotic arrangement of layered loops, with the 718 version including a new bassline and new, rhythmic keyboard parts which follow the background chords.

The best I've ever heard this material, certainly better than the US vinyl and original CD. Fills the room, very spatial
-
Just found this very pressing for $10 in the bin at the record store, and now I don’t have to spend the extra $30 importing it. Awesome day

Thank you for the quick ship and making my brother happy -
Tune! I buying this from Eastern Bloc round about the end of Nov 1989, I was a 17 year old college student and needed to split a tenner with a friend so this cost me £3.49 and I had change for the bus home up north manchester. I’d forgot my door key and sat outside my front door for a couple of hours until my mum came home and I was straight up to my bedroom to slap this on the deck, canned it for weeks.. happy days, where has 35 years gone?

Absolute must have early 1990's tune! Officially released late 1989 UK and pressed on Tommy Boy for US market.
It's full of nostalgia for me and a perfect electronic masterpiece. Check out the '10 tracks the club built: How the Hacienda inspired an era of dance music' This is one of those tracks! -

A classic with some ok remixes that are definitely to that time. Just pick 808:90 or Utd. State 90 if you want this iconic song + the added bonus of other great tracks! -
A good pressing , an iconic track . Good to have it in your collection if you love electronic music or would like to explore on it .
-
A US CDM should have been released with all these found here but better a Cassette than inner groove distortion on Pacific Break.
I am happy.now where is my Nakamichi Dragon? -
Were the "Tommy Boy Mixes" (containing 212 & 516 etc) actually released some time earlier in the United States than in the United Kingdom?
Discogs contributions list 8 March 1990 for the UK release and a vague 1989 for the US release.
This is actually what I think I . I am fairly sure clubs and raves in the UK in 89 were of course playing the Tommy Boy mixes. I also think I these were likely sourced from across the pond, while I some fuss about the record not being available to buy in shops in the UK yet.
