Notes

About the album title:
Initially released as Danzig 4P, a reference to the "Four P Movement" and the fact that this is the fourth volume of Danzig's (eponymous) body of work, this release is usually referred to as Danzig 4 or simply 4 on some occasions. The CD itself and the labels on the vinyl LP also state the title as being simply Danzig 4.

In various 1994-1995 interviews, vocalist Glenn Danzig explained that he did not wish to give the album a title, as he felt that a logo or printing would ruin the artwork, which he wished to stand on its own. After pressure from representatives from American Recordings, who did not want to release an unlabeled album for fear that sales would plummet, Danzig relented and allowed a sticker reading Danzig 4 to be placed on the album's cellophane wrapper. To the right of the "4" he added a tiny letter "p", in reference to the "Four P Movement".

Artwork and packagings:
The album cover features artwork by Glenn Danzig. Glenn Danzig has referred to the symbols on the album cover as "Vehmic runes" that spell out "Danzig". They were taken from the alphabet of a secret tribunal group from Medieval called the Vehmgericht.

The liner notes contain a panoramic picture of the four band in propped up caskets as a Bill Clinton impersonator shakes hands with a man wielding a sniper rifle. Glenn Danzig would later reveal that the FBI considered him a threat to Clinton, the American President at the time of the album release. The liner notes also include a yin yang symbol incorporating the Danzig skull, by artist Michael William Kaluta.

The first pressings of the album were sold in a distinctive cardboard sleeve, which Glenn Danzig claimed was more like that of an old-fashioned LP and more environmentally-friendly than the common plastic CD jewel case. Since this initial release of the album, its cardboard packaging has been replaced by the jewel case.

Like Danzig's previous three albums, Danzig 4 has been labeled with a Parental Advisory (originally in the form of a sticker until the repackaging in the jewel case) since its initial pressings, despite the absence of common profanity.

I have a copy of this - and it is a really good pressing - 2xLP set, no UPC on the back. Message me if you are interested.

Not sure why this is the first review. This album is my favorite out of the main Danzig titles. The sound is incredible. Very happy with this version.

Sound is a little low, have to crank this one up but otherwise sounds okay. Packaging feels very bootleg-like though.

Is the outro of Bringer of Death supposed to be cut off? I've never owned any other physical version of this record so not sure if intentional.

Best copy you can get that’s not an original! Way better than the single lp version. I have both and this is far superior but has a little warp, doesn’t affect playability.

The album sounds great just like the cd but typical of Danzig vinyl it is mastered quietly so you'll need a good system that you can crank it up on

Good, clean album with a fantastic mix, unsure of the source (likely the original LP), sounds less muddy than the CD mix, very pronounced. The low end doesn’t “kick”, but I’d say that’s the intent. Really ecstatic with this one.

The last Danzig album with classic lineup and last great record he achieved(if I may notice).Deep, dark, atmosphere and strong, well ballanced production by Rick Rubin. From the opener Brand new God to the last(hidden)track, you know you witness something special.
Hard to highlight some song because every single one of them is classic Danzig song which only him can create.
Only Sadistical shows industrial feel that will be Danzig path to follow latter on(unfortunately).
Go listen to this album and enjoy.

Sounds like it’s mastered from the CD. Cover art is blown out and pixelated. Still beats forking out for an original pressing!

Question for everyone with this original Euro pressing: are the guitars folded down to mono (in the center of the stereo field, behind the vocals) on this pressing as well? The original U.S. vinyl pressing has that! Not on the old CD though, all rhythm guitars are spread to the sides as they should be on the CD. But in the official U.S. vinyl the guitars always sounded quiet and phase-y to me, and I just listened again and realized all of the rthm gtrs are in the center! Very weird. Everything else in the mix is still in stereo... That means American Recordings sent the mix off to be mastered and pressed with the gtrs already summed to mono. No fathomable clue why they would've done that, besides by mistake... So i was wondering if the Euro pressing has that same anomaly.
Thank you in advance to anyone who checks their copy. Come on back & let me know!
