Edited one year agoI'm not all that familiar with Bob's early 80s output but I like what I'm hearing here. As for the box set... YIKES.! I checked all 5 brand new and sealed CDs and a couple have scuffs on them. That's annoying but those play okay. What really makes my p!ss boil is that CD 4 has a tiny pinpoint of a nick in it causing the disc to skip and splutter for about 4 or 5 seconds during "Union Sundown". HOW DID THAT HAPPEN.?? But having said that, aesthetically, the presentation here is fantastic... especially the book. It's a lush presentation in a heavy cardboard slip case. More tracks here than on the vinyl set and different sequencing but if you like this music, I suggest you raid your piggy bank and buy BOTH versions. Great stuff.

Really excellent package at a reasonable price. Decent vinyl quality, good mastering. Some of his best songs on here, killer versions abound. Shout out to Jokermen podcast.

Got 4 copies (from Amazon): all copies came with non-fill (stitching sound) on the C side. One of the copies also had non-fill issue (also with stitching sound) on D side. Very disappointed. Does anybody have a copy without non-fill issue on C and D sides? Thanks in advance.

I loved the record, but as everyone else has mentioned it was scratched from the loose packaging. Scratches were not audible.

Got from Amazon at U$16! Both records are flat and quiet, although not very clean. Sound is very good and the selection of tracks from CD and stream releases is pretty solid. Booklet have some very nice pics but the text has a weird and unnecessary confuse presentation. For $16 you can’t go wrong with it.

An honest review of this box from someone who was really looking forward to it. While the material is fantastic and eye-opening (hugely underrated period of Dylan's), my copy is noisy on every disc after cleaning. Plenty of ticks and pops that distract. A couple significant warps as well. Also mastered WAY too quiet, which amplifies surface noise when you have to turn up your stereo louder than you normally would. Sound quality is decent to good, which is just based on the source material. The box presentation is fantastic with plenty of things to look at/read. Still happy to own for an archivist's sake, but they could have put more love into the sonics/pressing quality rather than the physical box and visuals.

As others have noted, I got warped and marked up vinyl. So far it doesn't seem to be audible, but obviously not great quality control. I wish someone would find a way to do higher quality Bob releases a la Neil Young, but it does sound pretty good to me.
-
This one release of outtakes by Dylan is better than most other’s best material. I can’t get enough of this or the 2 LP version (all different tracks across the 6 LPs).
