This australian edition is the only way to have the cold end versions of both "Dreaming Of Me" and "Ice Machine" on vinyl. If you find it at a reasonable price, don't hesitate! -

The times listed above are incorrect: they should be as follows:
Dreaming Of Me 3:46
Ice Machine 3:54
Both versions fade out. -

Are these track timings right? They look like the timings from the CDs which don't have a fade out.

I bought this single the day it was released... because i liked the sleeve! I still have it, I somehow kept it mint! -

Wikipedia is claiming that the original 7" of "Dreaming Of Me" contains the longer cold ending versions of both tracks. I bought it in 1983 and my copy has the fade versions. The first time I heard the cold ending versions was on the 1988 UK Mute CD reissue of 'Speak & Spell'. Does anyone own the UK 7" with cold endings? -

My recollection is that some of the first UK copies in the picture sleeve came with the press release you see pictured with the test pressing (it was folded and inside the sleeve). -

Sound quality is phenomenal. One of the best sounding 7" singles I own. -

Melancholy synth pop. Vince Clarke at his best, goosebumps listening to Ice Machine ! -

This is the first released single by the brilliant synthpop quartet Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Andrew Fletcher and Dave Gaham, together as Depeche Mode since 1980. The band had just found the correct vocalist and turned itself into a very synthesizer driven formation. At the end of 1980, they already did some lives and recorded some music, but through Daniel Miller they could Mute Records, which gave to the band a whole new perspective.
Their first single, from february 1981, 'Dreaming of Me', reminds us of the more innocent times of synthpop, specially because of the opening track with the same title, containing innocent melodies and letter. It exists since the very first moments of the band, for it had been chanted on lives before the single release, like the one of Southend On Sea, of 1980.
Performed with a harmonic four-note sequence, 'Ice Machine' has a much more emotional and intense approach in a combination of many synthesizer melodies and interesting vocal chorus, puncturing the subconsciousness of the intense listeners with very special moments. Perhaps the best live version for this tune was the one of 'C'est la vie', recorded in 1984.
