Reviews

Agree with the other reviews. This is plenty loud, clean, clear and sounds excellent. Not as consistently good to me as Doolittle or Surfer Rosa, but still worth it.
-
This sounds to me as though theres a veil hanging over the speakers. Something is off. I played my HMV 21st Anniversary Doolittle before playing this, and the difference in SQ was striking. I’m tempted to pick up an original Pilgrim to compare. My Surfer Rosa and Bossanova both sound fine too. Its just this.
So 5 stars for the songs but 3 for the pressing -
Colossal sound quality! Very loud and almost no compression. Superior quality vinyl and outer sleeve. My rating of the publication is 9* out of 10 (reduced due to lack of printed insert).

Edited 2 months agoMy experience with how this record sounds is different from what is described on the previous reviews. It’s true that probably it’s not the most well engineered sound recording but it has punch and good detail! Only some compression noticed on tracks like “I’ve been Tired” and same hiss on vocals, compromises a bit the overall great sound, so I rated 4 stars. You might have to use the volume on a lower scale! It’s a loud mastering!
-
Loud mastering indeed. I like it, maybe a bit compressed feeling, but it is the way it was meant to be. So buy with confidence.

An absolute must own for Pixies fans. This record is top notch, clean, and loud. Highly recommend picking up this record

Very different runouts on my copy differ. I have:

Anyone else? -
Edited 3 years agoThis is a total package. Creative musicianship, solid recording, super nice pressing that is flat and glossy, and nice packaging. Excellent presence and soundstage and pretty good instrument separation and clarity. Warm and powerful bass. You can really sense the studio they recorded in. (Wait, did I just hear someone kick a cord on a rest?)
-
Anyone else's copy sound like it was pressed from a homemade cassette tape that someone found in their attic?
