fabrik nos is the artist name i came up with when i was 17 and just started producing tracks. i used my real name on these mixes to differentiate them from the rest of the stuff i do (industrial, hard techno mostly)

hehe, well as you can see there's some old goa stuff scattered throughout these mixes, so it's not that out of place... but yes 1997 is pushing it a little ;)

Update: WTWG Pt. 8 is in progress! This time I am taking a new approach: all tracks will be in lossless quality (CD to FLAC rips, DJ'ed through Traktor) and encoded in FLAC as well. I wish I had done this for the previous mixes.

I will be creating a website soon for this mix series - all the original MP3 files, and starting from Part 8 onwards, FLAC s as well. I can also re-encode parts 4 through 7 in FLAC for higher quality, since I still have the original recordings, though some of the source material is MP3. What do you guys think, worth the effort?

thanks guys, i've been busy at a new job these last few weeks but this weekend i'll have plenty of time to get back into WTWG mode. can't say when the website will be ready but at least part 8 will be near completion.

i just gave these mixes to a friend's 16 yr old son who wants to know more about the music i used to DJ back when he was a toddler. so many fond memories. thanks.

thanks man, that's an honor :) i'm not sure how the younger generation would react to this kind of trance. i know they are much more used to that big, epic progressive sound that has dominated clubs for so long. i know a common reaction to oldschool trance is it sounds so "thin" and there's no "bass". obviously that is not true, but i can see how that generalization can be made when say old Resistance D is compared to new Armin van Buren or something. anyways, here's to the old days!

Man I really need to get my ass in gear, the mix has been sitting on my laptop for months now. The main reason I didn't it originally is because it's a little sloppy... it's nowhere near a precise mix like the last 8, which I composed in Live. I'm going to try to re-record the mix with a bit more precision, and if I fail at that, I'll just the original version, sloppiness and all :) Thanks for the reminder...

Already working on the conclusion to the When Trance Was Good mix series, Part 10, and I have been saving my two favorite tracks for last.

Loving this whole series. For me, this is real trance music. Not a fan of the later stuff. Not even the ones on the "20 sets" discussion, too fast, too melodic and cheesy.

Keep up the good work! I'm hoping to ID classic trance/techo from a mixtape I had back in the day. Sadly I don't have the tape any more, so I just keep listening out for familiar sounds :)

Thanks man glad you dig. I pretty much stopped listening to trance during that big progressive/epic takeover in the late 90s but I will always return to the old stuff. I'm not very good at obscure track IDs, but I'll pop in your channel and see if I can help any.

not yet...I'm actually busy putting together the WTWG website where I will be permanently hosting all mixes. As soon as that's done, Part 10 will be underway. My predictions about when I will be done are never right, so I'm not even going to bother this time :) But it definitely won't take over a year like the last one did.
