Welcome to the Master List of CD matrix manufacturer information (version 2)
The list is now discontinuedat the wiki CD Matrix manufacturing list and this thread will only serve to discuss the content on the wiki and to propose new additions, edits
Last version can be found at archive org https://web.archive.org/web/20220525230141/https://reference.discogs.cinepelis.org/wiki/cd-manufacturing-companies-from-matrix
A big thank you to everyone who has ever contributed to the last thread. Especially thanks to Old and abandoned thread
Thanks everyone who still uses this thread to discuss CD manufacturers and the kind souls that update the wiki with new or updated information. -

Is there not a typo on EMI Uden line?
Would like to update but don't know how do proceed for linked name.
it doesn't work as your example.
thanks for spotting. updated and added a link to the profile
each line in the table has the following structure
| Matrix text | [name of the url](url) | optional comment |
for example
| EMI Uden | [EMI Uden](https://discogs.cinepelis.org/label/266256) | optional comment | -

DW (2) is an Australian pressing facility recognisable by DW in the matrix and the mastering SID code IPFI LR11.
is DW alone not enough? Is it only the combination that should be credited to DW (2)?
maldoror
A CD with this pressing information can be dated to 2014 or later
Why 2014 or later? If the company didn't exist before or used a different name, then the profile should be updated with the info. Makes it easier to understand the why.
Can you link to a sub with it? Ideally with an image of the matrix area. -

CD manufacturing is complicated. Then company and the characteristics in the matrix can be one of three steps in the manufacturing process.
1) glass master company.
2) actual pressing plant
3) manufacturer of CD pressing machine

It would be great if we could somehow add this information.

The company roles that should be used for the companies on the list, how do we know which is correct to use? Some have roles clearly explained based on information found on the releases, others seem to be less clear, as on CBS/Sony Records Inc., "Japanese record and manufacturing company", "80s and '90s have a mould manufacturing print" but later on the advice is "please used at 'Pressed by' !" It would be good to have a simple recipe but that will not work in many cases. It is thus at the s discretion to choose one of the possible roles.
If in doubt, use a more general role. When it's clear it would help to have some guidance, roles specified on the wiki as well. -

Hi, don't know if we need to start a new discussion or ok to ask here. About Key Production, we edited a release with just the word KEY in the matrix, John Wetton - Battle Lines. Comparing it to other versions under the profile, there are those with KEY + # like on the edited release, but have the www. names also in the matrix.
The release that you link to is from Australia while Key Productions is from the UK so I'd say that in this example there is no connection.

jansenENjanssen
The profile states: "Please only use this profile for releases which specifically mention "Key Production". What about releases that just mention KEY
if a release has KEY and www.keyproductions.co.uk for example then Key Productions can/should be credited imho. the wording of the profile has the intent that you must not credit the url profile if only the name is there and vice versa.

The standard is to use exactly what is in the matrix, which is why we have a bunch of URLs representing pressing companies and brokers now. See DW (2), we know the company is called Discworld but it is only on some discs, so the discs that have DW in the matrix get a DW (2) credit.

UK label, is it unlikely the disc was also made in UK? IFPI LP76 on the search here shows it to be on UK releases. Will leave that for the moment, maybe we can find out some more.
Is it possible to add to the wiki list which profiles you can add a number to the company credit where it has been confirmed these are correct to add? We regularly come across submissions with a number added to a company where we cannot find any references for these on a profile (just edited a release to add Mr. J. Medeiros - Milk And Eggs, etc.) -

Hey guys, I noticed that Disc Partner). The (catalogue) numbers match the timeline. I have ca. 7 - 8 CDs from them in my possession. Should it be mentioned in the profile ? (so that the people can enter the continuous number) You can always see the number in the matrix: Disc or disc or DISC and then the number. And if it would be ok, then with DISC/Disc/disc or without ? I could make an update and an edit. Disc Partner is also not in the wiki (CD Manufacturing Companies from matrix) list. I came across SIDI today which isn't on the wiki page yet.
Label profile states "Recognised by SIDI CO. JEDDAH KSA S [year] KSA ZZ BA STM [cat. nr.] in the matrix area."
However the second 'KSA' is 'UAE' and the 'ZZ' is 'EM' on my release.
The release in question is on EMI Music Arabia which could explain the EM as a label identifier maybe and UAE could be the country it's destined for perhaps? -
Show this post
UAE is short for United Arab Emirates, so is plausible, maybe sayed_effendi who edited the profile knows more? -
sayed_effendi edited over 9 years ago
KSA is Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
UAE is United Arab Emirates
Will have a look at it. I wrote the profile based on the matrixes available at that time.
Is this the release concerned Erasure?
There we have SIDI CO. JEDDAH KSA S 95 UAE EM DE STM 894 0101
Still the year (95) and the sequential number (894) is valid, but the letters differ.
There are others that have UAE EM:
SIDI CO. KSA 96 UAE EM BA STM 1258 0101
SIDI CO. KSA S 96 UAE EM BA STM 1448 01
And there are other variations to like:
SIDI CO. KSA S98KSAMGBASTM275801 01
Maybe the SIDI CO identifies it. Followed by year. Followed by some other codes. Followed by sequential number.
Those that have UAE EM in the matrix string seem to be manufactured by SIDI for EMI Music Arabia which is based in the UAE.
The info between the year and the STM seems therefore at first glance to be additional info for other companies for which the release was manufactured.
Here: SIDI CO. KSA S 98KSAFRBASTMS55201 (KSA = Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) FRBA seems to point towards Farasan somehow.
So EM = EMI / FR is Farasan. Have no idea what BA/DE and STM stands for -

Opti.Me.S / MANUFACTURED IN ITALY BY OPTI.ME.S / MANUFACTURED IN ITALY BY OPTIMES Opti.Me.S.
I'm working on a draft for a cd from the RCA Original Cast Original Soundtrack series with
OMS in the matrix followed by the typical 12-digit 4-digit hyphen 1-letter matrix # that can be seen on already identified Opti.Me.S discs:
Example:
Ennio Morricone - Menage All'Italiana / Ad Ogni Costo (Original Soundtrack)
Matrix / Runout: OPTI.ME.S. 991950146045 3939-B
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L082
My draft:
Matrix / Runout: OMS 991950130890 1612-A
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L081
And another example from the database with both variants:
Almamegretta - Sanacore 1.9.9.5.
Matrix / Runout (Variant 1): OMS 991950127036 1519-A
Mastering SID Code (Variant 1): IFPI L081
Matrix / Runout (Variant 2): OPTI.ME.S 991950127036 1739-B
Mastering SID Code (Variant 2): IFPI L082 -

For vinyls we have change the pressing plants from WMME Alsdorf if WMME Alsdorf in runouts.
Should we now use also this plants for CD's? RSA = WMME Alsdorf? -

For Alton2 though any source were lacking, can anyone confirm those are indeed sequential company numbers that should be added to the company? -

Sonopress SAS has been edited based on http://wiki.musik-sammler.de/index.php?title=Liste_von_Presswerken#arvato_digital_services
We know that musik-sammler is not exactly considered as anything official, was it correct to add info based on there? -

not really. it should be a starting point for further research only. removed the SID code reference from the profile and added links to other sources for the other info.
Thread started at Sonopress SAS is only credited based on SID code. -

For Sonopress, Hong Kong, erdeimano has added a bit about pressing numbers without any reference/source/backing (as seems the usual case for this member) and voted correct by Alton2 though any source were lacking, can anyone confirm those are indeed sequential company numbers that should be added to the company?
have reverted the edit. Needs forum discussion, research and consensus before. Numbers added to Sonopress, Hong Kong are not valid until then and can/should be removed.
