Granted, Hardfloor's remake is a masterpiece of a remix, the only remix of the song that adds that something very extra into a track that seems pointless to remix at all. ..and talking about a total overhaul that actually leaves the original crying in the ditch, too sad that they didn't include the Pump 's Confusion remix that is about as perfect as it ever gets. That is my kind of mayhem, it would probably still get me dancing if I ever will live to celebrate and play this on my 100th birthday.
So, now, the reason to treasure this 2 x LP edition is the Temptation (CJ Bolland Mix). I for one completely love this rendition, and, yes, I love the original, but CJ goes dark and deep on this one and it isn't even on the CD, just the Cassette?!
But other than those two tracks, not much of interest here. -
For me, this entire compilation is worth it only for the Howie B remix of Age Of Consent.
Most (if not all) of the other remixes are uninspired "of the time" remixes that slapped New Order vocals on top of mediocre tracks that would barely have graced the respective producers b-sides by themselves.
I buying the double CD of this when it was released and the best thing I thought about it was Age Of Consent as well as how good the original 12" of Blue Monday sounded on the bonus CD.
And that pretty much sums it up.
If anyone has a copy of the first 12" of this with a scratched up Hardfloor remix, let me know. I don't even care about having the sleeve, I'd just love the Howie B remix on vinyl but will not pay collector prices for one song. -
Edited 11 years agoThere's a funny thing... The Dave Clarke mix of Everything's Gone Green here is different to that on the 12x12" series - http://discogs.cinepelis.org/master/view/292488 - and the one on Dave Clarke Remixes and Rarities - http://discogs.cinepelis.org/master/view/93537. The mix is a bit sparser, the vocals are mixed way down and, where audible, distorted. It's also slightly longer at 5:24.

This is a strange grab-bag of mixes, and the quality is really not up to New Order's usual standards. It starts well enough, with Hardfloor's take on Blue Monday melding the spirit of '83 to the sound of '95 to great effect, and Howie B's trip-hop "Age Of Consent" being a good laugh, even if not much of a floor-filler. There's also a pleasant surprise on Side D, where Biff & Memphis turn in a decent version of "Touched By The Hand Of God" which pays tribute to the track's disco roots with a stripped-down groove and exhortations to "feel the heat!". The other tracks, though, simply see the remixers going through the motions. One for completists only.
