Interesting fact, the tracks from the 'Still' EP that aren't quiet versions of NIN songs were originally written for the movie 'One Hour Photo' before the production went with another artist. Kind of a shame cause all of them slap.

Ganz ohne Intro schickt uns Nine Inch Nails hier direkt ins Geschehen der "And all that could have been"-Tour, und das mit gleich drei Krachern hintereinander: "Terrible lie", "Sin" und "March of the pigs". Da stellt "Piggy" schon eine kleine Erholung dar, dessen erste Zeilen vom Publikum lauthals mitgesungen werden. Es folgt die düstere instrumentale Überleitung "The frail" zu den nächsten schnellen Nummern "The wretched", "Gave up", und "The great below". Dann folgt mit "The mark has been made" nochmals ein Instrumental, das fast tsunamihaft auf einen zurast, end zum nachfolgend explodierenden "Wish". Nach "Suck" und "Closer" meint man, dass die Show mit "Head like a hole" ihren Höhepunkt erreicht hat. Dem ist nicht so, da das tieftraurige und mit einem monotonen Drumsound unterlegte "The day the world went away" folgt, dann der kommerziellste Hit der Band, nämlich "Starfuckers, Inc." und zum Abschluss die Ballade "Hurt". Ohne Outro ist dann auch Schluss.
Echte Fans der Band legen dann aber die zweite CD dieser Deluxe Edition auf, denn hier überrascht uns Trent Reznor mal wieder komplett. Die Platte ist mit "Still" betitelt worden und es sind folgerichtig ruhige Versionen von den Hits der Band Nine Inch Nails vertreten. Der erste Song "Something I can never have" startet mit Pianoklängen und Trent schreit hier seinen Schmerz regelrecht heraus. Das folgende Instrumental "Adrift and at peace" t zum bekannten "La mer", ist aber nicht so verzaubernd, sondern eher verstörend. Es folgt eine Unplugged-Version von "The fragile" und eine nur etwas abgeschwächte Version von "The becoming". Bisher unveröffentlicht ist das folgende Instrumental "Gone, still". Ebenfalls nur leicht abgeschwächt wirken "The day the world went away" und "And all that could have been". Das nur mit Piano und Hörnern vorgetragene Instrumental "The persistence of loss" wirkt sehr schwer und daher traurig, genau wie das abschließende "Leaving hope". Diese Platte sollte als Bewerbung für die MTV-Unplugged-Reihe vollkommen ausreichen. -

The 'Still' cd in this set is one of the best things that NIN has ever released. Beautiful music, it demands a high quality vinyl release.
