The 2015 European (Netherlands) pressing is ubiquitous in the U.S… and this U.S. version is made in the Czech Republic? Interesting to say the least.
-
Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly is nothing short of a masterpiece. A sonic and lyrical journey, this album transcends the genre of hip-hop, blending jazz, funk, soul, and experimental sounds into something uniquely profound. From the very first track, Wesley’s Theory, it’s clear that Lamar has crafted a concept album that addresses issues of race, identity, and social injustice in a way that feels urgent and necessary.
Lamar’s storytelling prowess is on full display, intertwining personal reflection with a powerful critique of American culture. King Kunta stands out as an anthem of empowerment, while tracks like Alright have become rallying cries for resistance. Yet, it’s the subtlety and depth in songs like Complexion (A Zulu Love) and These Walls that reveal the true brilliance of the album. Each track offers layers of meaning that demand repeat listens, rewarding listeners with new insights each time.
The production is equally ambitious, with a team of musical innovators—Thundercat, Flying Lotus, and Kamasi Washington—helping Lamar push boundaries while keeping the heart of the album grounded in a rich tradition of Black music. The incorporation of live instrumentation, spoken word, and soundscapes creates a truly immersive experience. -
Good sounding record.
High end: The record doesn’t have beautiful soaring highs. Compression caps them off/stops it from making it sound crisp but it still sounds good.
Mid range: Well balanced. Makes it sound warm.
Low end: Not punchy but present. However, this is the weakest part of the record.
Dynamic range is good (not mind blowing). Like many modern records, the compression makes it a bit less engaging but still sounds miles better than some other records from this era.

I don’t know if I bought a unofficial reprise. The cover is very pixelated, is it normal on the official reprise?
-
Very good packaging, The vinyl records themself sound EXTREMELY good, and the gatefold is a nice touch. I think personally this is a must have for any vinyl collector who likes hip hop.
-
-
My pressing is extremely sibilant in the inner grooves. Completely ruins These Walls and Alright. It's basically unlistenable.

My brother gave this to me as a birthday gift. I had the most profound experience of my life spinning this in my chevy trailblazer one early morning. This was my favorite album from 2017 up until I listened to ITCOTCK in 2018. Great memories and some lessons along the way.
-
This is one of my favorite albums ever, and it was a little bit disappointing to see the second disc didn't have the best quality possible. The edges felt pretty rought and the hole in the middle didn't fit in my turntable. I had to pick sandpaper and carefully fix the problem.
The sounds is good tho! If you want to give it a shot, do so. Maybe you'll have better luck than me.
