Had this on cassette originally, picked up the CD recently in a bargain bin - 99p! Watch out though as the CD looks like it has disc rot - very yellow and chunks missing...so rip it while you can!!! Great album though.

Influential compilation that was a strong expression of the ethos of the times. The Berlin Wall had recently come down ... now for Nuclear Weapons ! The ethos has continued right up to the present day and I think the music selection reflects the massive amount of positivity that got it all started. You may have heard of The Orb or The Shamen, but Fantasy UFO ? Their track still sounds unusual to this day. The Irresistible Force piece has some inspired ranting by Frasier Clark, in some ways the Russell Brand of his time.

The track "Karin Silkwood's car", which is here credited to Gary Clail, Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald (B. Alexander) and Keith LeBlanc, is originally a song by The Pop Group. On the (bootleg) issue "Idealists in Distress in Bristol", the Helsinki, October 1980 track "Hotter than thousand suns" is the same. The song is based on the life of Karin Silkwood who discovered that there was a fraude with nuclear waste. There was a movie of this with Meril Streep as Karin Silkwood.
