I've tried many times to get into this album, but ultimately it just seems like the music isn't fully formed -- like it's kind of aimless and unsure of itself. Port of Entry is possibly the best track.

My favorite father report album and I own most of their works. This is by far the standout in their anthology. If you are interested in thier music style, this is the album to own.

Dream Clock is such a beautiful Joe Zawinul composition. The contrast with Wayne's high-energy "Port of Entry" is striking. A terrific sounding album!
-
Edited 3 years agoJaco' s playing was and is beyond the musical limits when the album recorded. His melodic lines are unbelievably beautiful, full of emotionalism. His vibrato is out from this planet.
-
One of the best Weather Report albums, live or studio, bar none. Truly peak jazz fusion with improvisational glory, bebop sensibility, and creativity fuelling. At the same time there is a shift into swing revival (ten years later...) and a look back from jazz history recalling Duke Ellington's Rockin in Rhythm.

This is a Pete Turner (CTI Records) photograph. Is he mentioned on any of the pressings of this lp ???

Edited 5 years agoA return to the classic improvisational Weather Report style, this album serves as a fitting addition to the Pastorius-Zawinul era of the band. The album is a sonic journey reminiscent of it's title, a age through the night. Definitely one of their best.

I have a promo copy with label variation, the runouts are the same but the big ARC on the label is silver instead of blue. Sleeve has Demonstration Not For Sale stamped on upper left on back.
