After listening to the new Bluray with it's awful surround remix, this OG release is still teh best sounding version of this album.

Outstanding pressing. Brilliant production, dynamics and dead quiet. Sounds pretty good on my Dr Feickert Volare 25.
Also, the 12" of Take a chance on me, with the excellent 12" mix of The Main Thing on the B side, is just as good. Pressed and cut same as album. -

Just have to agree with everyone else, fabulously produced and pressed and still a total bargain, buy one you won't regret it.

Edited one year agoJust add one quick comment to many glowing reviews here: only the first track (More Than This) is thin and bass shy, the rest tracks are very well balanced with load of details. A truly audiophile level pressing without audiophile label pricing!

There's no doubt that this is possibly the best sound edition that you can get on vinyl, the only one that beats it is the 2012 Box on CD, if you have no prejudices, that's the definitive edition of this masterpiece.

This really does sound amazing. PL-12D and M75ED gives just amazing bass and that unmistakable depth and energy of analogue. You'd need a DAC in the $1000 range to match the sound and the pure joy this gives.
-
wow to this pressing. Just wow. To be fair, I have a US pressing that sounds pretty incredible as well...but you can't go wrong with this bargain.

This LP sounds better than the later versions, and it sounds quite a bit better than the simply vinyl one.

Ranking at No 31 in Rolling Stones magazine's "100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s" in 1989,we have Roxy Music's eight and final studio album, Avalon, their most successful studio album and only million-selling US record, ultimately receiving platinum certification.
Released in May 1982. It was recorded between 1981 and 1982 at Com Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas,my favourite Roxy Music album, with me coming late on the scene preferring this later reincarnation of the band's culmination of a more smoother, adult-oriented sound, compared to the band's earlier work.
The first single released was "More Than This", "Avalon" followed suit then "Take a Chance With Me" which whenever I hear Bryan Ferry's "Is This Love Strong Enough?" from Riddly Scot's Legend soundtrack I'm always reminded of, which I put down to lead guitarist Phil Manzanera's haunting intro.
The cover for the album always reminded me of something straight out of the pages of fantasy and glamour illustrator Chris Achilleos portfolio, the artwork actually designed by Peter Saville, with Bryan Ferry's girlfriend and future wife Lucy Helmore appeared on the album cover wearing a medieval helmet with a falcon perched on her gloved hand, evoking King Arthur's last journey to the mysterious land of Avalon.
It's one of my favourite vinyl records in my collection from the 80s with front man Bryan Ferry being the epitome of suave
