The Beatles – The Beatles In Mono

Do we need another review? No, probably not, but I wanted to tell anyone that was worried that it may not live up to hype, IT REALLY IS AS GOOD AS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TELLING US IT IS. I literally teared up listening to some of these songs. If you’re a big fan, sell whatever you need to sell and pull out your credit card and buy a NM copy. The vinyl is DEAD silent. Having this set is as close as most of us will ever get to hearing the mono master tapes. I can’t believe I finally own this set. If you can find a set that you can afford, buy it.

After searching for nearly a decade, a near mint set finally came into the record store I shop and that feeling of finding a holy grail was felt! After a thorough cleaning I am just blown away by the Sonics of these pressings. Comparing to the stereo vinyl box that was released around the same time it just is night and day.

It’s not to say that the stereo box set is bad but there’s a reason why so many others on here and on YouTube just praise this set. I found that the book that came with the box to really be an enjoyable read and appreciate the breakdown of the differences in certain tracks in this mono box set.

I’ve spoken to others and like many on here firmly believe that this isn’t getting a repress anytime soon which is a shame because hearing these records in mono, (Especially their first 4 albums) is night and day.

The price is just what it is, just like anything out there. We won’t see something like this for a long time, at least not until Giles finishes putting his touch on each album IMO.
They are still out there folks, you just have to be like Captain Ahab and keep hunting for the white whale or go broke trying.

Just scored this for a price well under average and median prices here. Lovely chap who sold it: «I hate guys that flip these just to make a lot of money: I’ll rather sell it to someone that will listen to the records!» There’s actually some nice people left in this world! I was just lucky that a friend saw the advert and alerted me and here I am savouring every second of listening to and looking at this piece of cultural history. And the sound on these records? Amazing!

I'll Cry Instead - 1 min 50 sec? I thought that mono version supposed to be over 2 min due to extra verse?

I have issues with my copy of Rubber Soul. Michelle on my copy is very badly distorted, as is Run for your Life. Rega P6, with a Hana EH cart, and other records sound fine on the innermost track, so I don’t think it’s an alignment issue. Girl is lightly distorted and Drive My Car also sounds a little lacklustre. The sound quality of the other tracks vary between ok and great. I think there are dud batches out there, perhaps pressed with worn stampers? If I find another copy on its own at a reasonable price, I purchased a second copy, which came from another mono box set and it sounds exactly the same as my first copy unfortunately. I’m not going out of my way to find another copy.

It's been a few months since I've listened to any Beatles music, but I just threw on the Giles Martin remastered stereo from a few years ago. I purchased and never listened to it. Anyway, after about half of track one, it just seemed off. I threw on my mono Sgt Pepper from this set and there's really no comparison. The 2014 mono absolutely slays. I was lucky enough to buy this set when it was released. What a gem!

How many of the LP boxes where actually made and is it true they are numbered and your number is the white album LP ? The prices of these sets when they were released were a steal for the standard of them.

Absolutely love this box and love comparing it with the original UK pressings, which in most cases the originals win. Honestly this box is more affordable than if you bought all original even still with the high price point.

Look up idiot, it will be my face. I bought this boxset new in 2014 when it was released. I sold it months later for a little less than what I paid because I wanted to buy more records.
