Agree with the previous post that Coltrane sounds great here. Musically, he just goes crazy! Agree that Ali on percussion matches Coltrane. I'm less happy with Alice Coltrane's piano playing, which seems more like a reticent accompaniment and does not quite match the spirit of the recordings. In general, these are not very well-recorded. Coltrane sounds big and vivid and the percussion sounds pretty good. The rest of the instruments are difficult to hear and to distinguish in the mix. The piano in particular sounds muffled and distant. I found a copy of this record in very good condition in the bins at my local record shop and I am very pleased to have it in my collection.

Normally these types of posthumous comps feel unnecessary but this one is great, especially if you prefer the Rashied Ali-era stuff to Coltrane's more conventional work. Highly recommended.
