I have what seems to be this pressing, everything is as described except for the front cover where "John Coltrane" is in light blue rather than white. Any ideas on this variation?

Hello All, I need some advice on John Coltrane's 'Lush Life'. Firstly, I am looking for it in Mono on CD. Secondly, I am interested in a couple of releases which feature bonus tracks - 1 on Poll Winner Records, 1 on Dream Covers. Are these mono releases? My alternative is to go for a Japanese Mono CD version without the bonus cuts, but I would like some info on the two releases mentioned. Thanks very much in advance of any replies.

Edited 4 years agoWith all due respect to Craft, there is no way that their reissue should be selling for higher prices than this, the original. That's just ridiculous. Go get an original, 'cos right now they're cheaper.

This original Rudy Van Gelder mono of Lush Life is excellent, definitely easy on the ears and musically enjoyable in various gradings. My copy was rated VG, and there is soft dusty background sound throughout the vinyl which had a surprising effect on me, instead of feeling letdown, that I was missing out on the unblemished performance, the noticeable sound of the surface felt familiar like rediscovering a dear long lost friend. This sound filled the room with a warmth and cozy texture that is personally relatable because THAT is how jazz records sounded to me when I was growing up in a different age of vinyl. That was a sound of vinyl that couldn’t be provided by a tube amp, fancy speakers or a better turntable. Vinyl records are time capsules and sometimes the dust of time is trapped inside along with the music and the recording studio and the emotion and memories that are evoked with every playing of that moment. Lucky we can access all of this and more when a recording is as well crafted and masterfully played as this original mono collection of John Coltrane and his crew.

Silly question, why is this album so valuable? It's wonderful and Coltrane is in peak form- but were there few copies pressed?
