There are some very special pressings of Thriller and Off the Wall out there that sound fuller than this set. The tracklist here can't be beat, though. Nearly everything's on here, career-wide.

My Copy Has A Promo Sticker On It, Sounds Absolutely Incredible And Was Mastered To Vinyl Very Well. The Original Material Makes Up One Of The Very Best Pop Albums Of The 1990's, Possibly MJ's Magnum Opus Since He Really Puts So Much Of His Heart And Soul Into These Songs And The Production Is Very Well Done, Especially On The More Orchestral Songs And The Tracks That Had Jimmy Jam And Terry Lewis Producing Them.

Funny all the ridiculous prices that are being asked on this one, since it’s not rare at all. There are 33 copies for sale!

I am very fortunate to have been able to recently purchase a sealed copy of this rare and wonderful box set for a reasonable price and to enjoy the experience of opening it as it was 25 years ago. I have owned this album on CD since 1995 and have always loved it, so I was prepared to get some serious enjoyment out of this set. And boy did it deliver! I wasn’t sure what to expect, being a 90s vinyl release and all, but it exceeded what expectations I did have. The box itself is decently solid, though thin walled and the artwork is nice and clear. The book is extremely nice containing some cool pictures, album/award info, heartfelt quotes from Michael’s celebrity friends, and more. The 3 LPs are nicely pressed and extremely clean. The only background noise that I experienced was on LP3 due to some light pressure wear as a result of being squished underneath the book and other two LPs for a couple decades. Which brings me to my only real gripes. One being that the book should have been packed underneath the records rather than on top of them, and two, it would have been much nicer to have jackets for the LPs or at least thicker style inner sleeves rather than the paper thin inner sleeves that they each came in. That was the only aspect of the box set that felt cheap and a little insulting. Back to the LPs, there were only a few stray pops and clicks after being cleaned and I was Very pleased and, honestly, surprised by the sound quality all around. The “greatest hits” portion is said to be remastered and it shows. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard those songs with more clarity and depth. Very impressive work in my opinion. The only issues that I had with this portion were a slight amount of IGD at the end of both sides of LP1 and some shallow tone arm waggle on side 3 that caused some audible warping during Heal the World. But, those issues weren’t too distracting and I was mainly concerned with the HIStory Continues portion of the album anyway, which ended up being about perfect. The new songs were surprisingly a bit quieter than the older songs, but not abnormally quiet. All of the new songs sounded terrific and I experienced no notable issues during this section other than the little bit of background noise on LP3 that I mentioned earlier, but that wasn't the fault of the pressing itself. I really can’t express all of the enjoyment and nostalgia that I felt while listening to the songs in this section, but to give an idea, when the drums kicked in during Earth Song I smiled so hard that my cheeks hurt immediately. This box set was a tremendous experience many years coming and I am thankful to now own it and be able to enjoy it again and again. I can definitely recommend it to any MJ fan if you can find a copy at a decent price, but that is sadly very difficult. Nonetheless, it is well worth it and shouldn’t disappoint.

Edited 4 years agoGot this original '95 PROMO set, it's very quiet and clean, no pops, no crackle, and it sounds good overall, not the best I would expect, vocals and all music sound a bit set back in the new stuff, and generally well mastered for the best of portion. More for the collectability and not for an amazing vinyl experience.
