Does this specific version have the vocals? I bought the album Forevernevermore specifically for this track but was disappointed to find it did not have vocals on it.

This pressing has 23aa on the flip, a tune that spins at 45rpm and uses some of the same gospel samples from 'The Thief...'.

          Kenny is King.

Most of the folks who collect his work, dismiss his gospel releases because, well, as we know there is no place for god in "secular" music, be it popular culture or underground detroit deep house.

Sadly, they then miss out on arguably his best work. I personally suspect this is because Kenny wants to do his gospel roots proper justice. He speaks with Gilles Peterson about his experiences being led to church with his demanding grandmother and the impact the music had on him.

Truthfully, this is the "secret" to good house music. Any house music producer who has grown up (not just visited once, or twice), in a black church and was impacted by its music cannot help but to produce good tracks. Why? Because virtually all of real house music is rooted in the black church. Don't get it twisted.

This is why Kenny is an absolute master of his craft. He doesn't ignore his roots, and "Thief" summarily proves this. If you own this track or wish to find it, that when you listen to it, or mix it in a set, to do so with the utmost of reverence. Do not do these things because "Thief" is a collector's item, or because you want to show everyone you've got a cool "moodymann" track, but because the work is truly a template of the highest quality house.

To me this two tracks 12" is much better than the one with the same labels (KDJ 23A / 23B) because of the gorgeous vocal song "Ya Blessin'Me" which is not even featured on KDJ 23A / 23B ! I discovered this track on the Peacefrog CD PF095CD Forevernevermore but was very disappointed not to find it on the vinyl.

This is a perfect blend of gospel, r & b and Moodymann's trademark sound, it's also on the forevernevermore album
