My copy with Chet Bennett hand-etched on runout of side A sounded with different EQ, less clear in top-end, and lower signal ratio compared to side B.
Wonder if it was a worn matrix or Chet's lacquer cut manner.
Please respond anyone who noticed the same difference on another copy.

From 1980, this is a quintessential Judas Priest record. By this time the Birmingham blokes have settled into riff-based, dark dual guitar chugging style, with screaming vocals over top. It is gigantic and compelling. They've even embraced the '80s with the addition of gated reverb on the drums...cool.

Opening with one of the best known JP rockers, "Breaking The Law", you know what you're in for here. Other highlights include "Grinder" and "Living After Midnight".

The mix is even better than Killing Machine and Unleashed in the East, which are both stellar. The songs sound better the louder you crank them, no joke.

This Pitman pressing is big, dynamic, and clean. I bought this copy in late 1980 as a kid. The whole record smells like leather. 4.5 stars. Recommended.

So what's a good reissue to go with? Back on black is not the way to go?

Regarded by many as their breakthrough album, this came on the back of 'Unleashed in the East', which had given an airing to the far heavier live versions of the earlier classics, thus paving the way for BS.

'United' was released as the single, a great sing-along for the crowd.

With a suite of strong tracks, arguably better than some later albums, its not hard to see how JP leapt to the forefront of the HM pack of the early 80s.

Pity they followed it up with 'Point of Entry'.....
