This press sounds great, plenty of punch and grit. Buy with confidence. This is fat rock and roll at its most crankable.
I always play this record at +3.3, which takes it from a 2.5/5 record to 4/5. The songs have more spring and impact. Songs that seemed to plod get much needed forward momentum and energy.
The weakest point for me is the title track, simply because, like Back in Black, it got played to death on the radio. I typically skip it, thought it's in fact a great album opener.
FTAtR has no obvious singles like BiB did, but it is a solid record and the last of their really good records as well. Maybe FTAtR's a little underrated coming in the shadow of Back in Black, but that means it's ripe for rediscovery.
I actually prefer it to Back in Black, because BiB has been so overplayed. I never need to hear "You Shook Me..." or "Back in Black" or "Hells Bells" ever again, as good as they may be.
Give the vinyl of "For Those About to Rock..." a little 3.3 boost, crank it and see if it doesn't shake your foundations.
Otherwise, what does the record sound like? Sounds like AC/DC, my man, and at the height of their powers in the Brian Johnson era. -
