There is some nice stuff on this but I find the tone a little cold and uninspiring. The piano lacks the depth and nuances of previous solo recordings. Maybe this is because he recorded it at home? -

Edited 18 years agoOn this quiet and intimate jazz album, Keith Jarrett plays the piano unaccompanied. There is an air of assured quality since most of the tracks are jazz standards to begin with. But it is Keith's prowess in interpretation and improvisation that makes this album so positively overflowing with grace, emotion, melody, and even romance. Every note, every chord, every pause is well-conceived.
The traditional American folk song, Shenandoah, is an outstanding track. Keith builds upon its rich melody, layer upon layer, until it rises to an emotional climax. This album abundantly proves that there is beauty in simplicity.
