I have 4 versions, boxed UK Decca stereo, Dutch original stereo, dsd 2003 and the UK unboxed decca mono matrix 4A/6A. A bit to my surprise ( or not?) this one beats all the others in sound. The stones are great in mono I have learned. It’s dynamic, accurate, direct and punchy, the drums and bass are crisp and in your face. Bill’s bass on this record plays a major part on songs like my obsession and connection and is more present than on any other record. It hits me in an amazing way. Combined with Ian Shu’s boogie piano this is a highlight if not the best of the musical environment of London in the sixties.
