I picked this up from Walmart for a friend. But when I told her I got the Walmart red record, she asked me to open it, listen to it before mailing it because of the reviews here.
I'm not really having the sound issues with this pressing like some people are having because this sounds great. I guess only some copies are affected.
This sounds fantastic and so does the standard black vinyl re-issue. I think I'll keep this and give my friend the standard black vinyl. -
Awful, based on the issue others have reported on Fast Car. Cleaning the record doesn't help. I've got the red version, which was bought for me as a gift, and my local record store avoids black vinyl if there's the option of colour vinyl (I wouldn't call it a serious record store). It's a shame, as Tracy Chapman sounded really proud of this reissue, but someone has let her down.

Having the regular 2025 black version already, I picked this up for the heck of it. They both sound great, but there’s just something about the 1988 Specialty Pressing that sounds better. The 1988 plays with hiss, much better low-end and sounds more raw than the 2025 reissues. The 2025 reissue sounds much more sterile and clean which isn’t always a good thing in comparison. Hard to explain, but if you’re satisfied with your 2025 reissue purchase, then by all means enjoy it. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, pick up an original, specifically the SP pressing.

Just picked up a copy at my friendly neighborhood Walmart and there's not so much as a "tick" between songs. It's obvious a lot of care was taken in this release. It sounds fantastic.

My copy is sweet as pineapple. I’ve wanted this album in my collection for some time. Every track is perfectly placed on the album. It’s one of those ‘listen to the whole album’ types of records. I love blood red colour too. I splashed out to purchase it from JB HiFi in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, Aotearoa New Zealand, but I’m glad I did. I got it for 20% so it worked out a little cheaper than usual. Happy with my purchase. Tracy is phenomenal.

ing the Fast Car disappointment club… So upset for paying 40 Euro to listen to crackles during the best piece on the record. Otherwise the pressing is pretty good.
-
Same bad dark red/Fast Car pressing disappointment and have had the same issue on 3 in a row from my local store who are checking how/when/if they can get another copy. I'm now considering a used original instead which I thought sounded better on my friend's higher end system. The dark red sounded good enough had it not been for this unacceptable flaw.

Edited 17 days agoGot a clean copy after 2 tries. My word, this sounds incredible. Have all the colours and for some reason this red one sounded the best. I compared it with the U.S original quiex promo copy. On my system, the red one sounded more natural and organic with the vocals slightly forward. Looks like the red would be my go to copy.

what i could say.... the QC so bad. I had 5 copies (3 oxblood, 2 black) 3 oxblood distorted/crackling 1st minute of side1 track2, 1 black one got half button glue spot on side1 track3 they all returned. And last black side1 lots crackling during the playing..... otherwise it is a good sounding. You need to have a good luck in getting ones. WISH YOU LUCK!

This may not be my favorite album but this is 100% a Top 10 demo record. The audio fidelity of this release is nothing short of of outstanding.
