If you don't have a microline/shibata cartridge, don't even think about this. The inner groove distortion is completely overpowering on an elliptical.

This is impressive. Sounds so much better than the original. So much details to hear. Whitney’s vocals really stands out. Was in two minds whether to get this until I heard Mike from In Groove comment about it. Money well spent.

Edited 11 months agoOverall, I am quite happy with this pressing. It is very quiet although not totally silent, with just a few light pops in between tracks. None of that gets in the way of the music though. When I first put the needle down I was a bit disappointed, in that the first two tracks had a somewhat thick congested and flat sound to them. From there the sound improved and by and large the rest of it sounds clear, open and really quite good, although cannot be considered an audiophile recording. The big hits are the best sounding tracks and as someone has said here, a few different producers were involved, which does mean there is a clear variation between the sound of tracks as you listen. I had no igd issues and I think that is because I have a microline stylus which is very carefully set up. Whitney’s voice sometimes sounds a bit piercing, but I would not consider that distortion, just how it was recorded.

I've yet to compare it to my original pressing, but this one sounds lovely to my 50 yo ears. My copy doesn't have any smudges or other physical imperfections. I also don't hear the IGD some commenters are reporting. I think my original did have some distortion issues, but I can report back when I've had a chance to compare.

Edited one year agoQuiet and flat. IMO the pressing is very pleasant. I'm trying to find words to distinguish this from my OG but haven't been able to pinpoint anything dynamically superior. Better , yes but worth the price, I can't get there. Don't get me wrong it's an iconic artist and debut album and for that I took the chance it would be amazing. I'm not blown away but not dissapointed either. I realize my review will probably not help someone on the fence but I'm not trying to persuade one way or the other.
This my opinion, with my system in my listening area. I'm finding I'm trying to convince myself lI've made a good choice.
