Hi all,
I saw some beautiful and expensive Mint sealed copies listed here. Just want to warn you about my story...
A friend of mine picked-up for me a so called "Mint sealed" copy of a Japanese press in Paris () from a store which is listing here and many others "Mint sealed" nice records.
My friend is not a collector/expert and despite the shrink had been opened and the record checked, he didn't see the very light hairlines and spindle marks difficult to see at day light.
The record is more or less NM all around and an insert was missing. It costed me probably twice the price I should have been paying for. It's not bad grading, it's simply robbery.
So, be careful, famous old records still sealed are pretty rare on the market. Only real collectors and very serious stores like some I'm in touch with in Japan and the US can be trusted. And unfortunately more and more robbers like that shop in Paris are re-sealing records to make more money faster. I gave it a try. Too bad for me. A second try is not necessary, just don't buy anything from that guy.

I have many versions of this epic recording.
IMHO, this Japanese beats everything else if you can find one in reasonable condition. -
Stunning cover design with embossing! The edition also has an inside insert with product materials in 2 languages, including my favorite Japanese! OBI perfectly complements the record, giving it even more collectible value! The record itself has a fairly light weight, which is typical for the records of that time. Pressing is as quiet as possible, which is also typical for Japanese records of the 80s.
The sound has amazing detail and a very wide dynamic range! To say he's great is an understatement.. he's as good as it gets on vinyl! Recording volume is high.
Strongly recommend! My rating is 10 out of 10! -
It's a nice sounding pressing but the US RL is the absolute best. Straight from the master tape mastered by Bob Ludwig. It has all the clarity and bass slam. The Australian Albert is also great. Even more bass slam than the RL but loses a little detail/clarity as it's not from the master tape.

Edited 4 years agoI can't say much else, other than to agree with the two previous comments. Outstanding pressing, high quality albeit a quite mix. Have to push the volume up about 20% compared to digital recordings.

Thank you Japan for producing these amazing sounding early 80’s pressings - Clean, low noise and dynamic - I’m very happy to have scored this pressing in Tokyo.
