OG 1997 mix on this release, all tracks on here including "The Disintegrators", no idea what version the guy below has. (Mine is the white/grey)
Volume is definitely a bit lower and a bit of surface noise between tracks, but overall a solid alternative if like me, you want to fill the gap in the collection but not by throwing silly money out for an OG. -
In addition to the unofficial issue on black vinyl of Cryptic Writings album (SSM Records), I purchased the unofficial issue on grey/white marbled vinyl (Capitol Records).
1. Edition on black vinyl (matrices: SSM 26.2021 A / SSM 26.2021 B).
11 tracks.
The record sounds very bright and powerful. High recording volume, wide dynamic range, depth and volume of the sound stage - everything is on the high level! The LP's own noise is negligible.
This edition has two drawbacks: The Disintegrators track is missing, and there is no tab with the original art, lyrics, or album information.
2. Edition on grey/white marbled vinyl (matrices: CRYPTIC WRITINGS A / CRYPTIC WRITINGS B).
12 tracks.
The recording volume level is noticeably lower than that of the SSM disc. Vinyl's own noise is quite high, there are clearly audible clicks.
The sound is not detailed, not spacious. Lacks bass. There is no clarity and detail at high frequencies.
But this issue contains track The Disintegrators, and also includes a tab with original art, lyrics and information about the album. -

This version is the original 1997 mix and not the 2004 remaster. The song “Use the Man” has the original clip of The Searchers’ “Needles and Pins” in the intro which was removed on the 2004 version. Needles and Pins was also the original title of Cryptic Writings.
