Is that Niney The Observer in the background on "Written On The Forehead"? I've listened to this album 500 times and this is the first time I've noticed, haha.

I really like the music. But the pressing is underwhelming and frankly, not that good. No dynamics, not soundstage, poor resolution in treble and bass. Should have much more impact than this.
Maybe the CD is better. Or maybe the CD master was used for this vinyl release? Missed opportunity, it seems. Are there better, more exciting versions that hold your attention? -
Polly Harvey is one of the most talented and inspiring singer / songwriters of her generation. Discuss.

I've just seen a used copy of this go for £45 on auction via eBay... The people bid it up to that amount... Must be getting scarce!

In my version of the vinyl (EU) there was a great photo picture of PJ Harvey inside. Anybody know something about this ?

Bought the vinyl version on a whim as I like this album so much. After reading some reviews and comments I didn't have very high expectations and when I got it home it was by far the dirtiest new record I have ever seen... covered in dust and sleeve shavings. I cleaned it before playing (vinyl revival) and too my surprise it sounded really good! A nice well mastered dynamic recording.....there were 4 really loud pops on the third track, which turned out to be a lump of glue!......cleaning again removed this and now it plays fine with hardly any surface noise. Packaging is good, card inner sleeve with photo of the band and song lyrics. I would recommend, but be prepared to clean! 5 stars for the music, 3 stars for the vinyl, though it goes to 4 stars after cleaning.

Edited 7 years agoFine recording and music, but bad pressing. Too many crackles. Record was more than averagely warped. Have it returned.
