Just got one of these used and agree with others - it sounds great. Quiet vinyl and dynamic mastering. Glad to finally have an affordable, nice sounding, copy of this

Very cool looking but more importantly my copy sounds great without any cleaning out of the package. No issues with the pressing at all over here.

Edited 2 years agoFinally grabbed this one after months of waiting, and it is fantastic!
To get the big one out of the way, this IS the censored in' Me By, but I never minded too much anyway. This was how I had always heard it on the radio. The censoring on that track is done very artfully.
Maybe I just got lucky compared to others but my pressing is quiet as can be and packs a real punch! I wonder how much of the crackle being reported is on the original album, this isn't a super hi-fi recording! The records are nice, thick, and flat as can be! The instruments all have good space to exist in, and none of them feel artificially "cut off". A good example is that the little bass solo at the end of Pack the Pipe. It sounds really full and deep! My only complaint is that the bands in-between tracks are very hard to see, but that's kind of the nature of this album (not much seperation between songs). Oh well.
I know some don't love this colorway, but I really dig it. It looks pretty on my turntable, and the colors pop more than you think! I prefer this smoky design to the bright blue and yellow it traditionally uses. Fits the vibe better in my opinion.
As per usual, the packaging is the only place this lags. Look, man, I'm not looking for some gorgeous tip-on gatefold (although that would help), but please give me a sleve thicker than a manilla folder! This is such a fun, unique record, it deserves way better than this! Especially for $45.
Overall, though, this pressing was a real joy to listen to, and I'm happy to finally own this record! -
sadly , another RSD money grab exercise , with no respect to the music. Get yourself an original pressing.

Such a good record I couldn't quit thinking about it until I got a copy. I am disappointed that it is not identical to the CD I bought new back in 1992. Soul Flower is a different mix, as others have noted ing Me By has the one word radio edited, and the track order is changed. Fortunately it doesn't change overall how good this record is.

I have to say i was hesitant after all the negative reviews, but I really wanted one so I pulled the trigger and have to say mine sounds just fine. The purple & yellow sparkle (more like smoke) looks very cool, pressing is nice and quiet. Took down 1 star because it’s weirdly expensive. Oh and Slimkid3, Imani and Fatlip signed my copy today so even happier I got it.
-
I would have to agree with a few others. Album one is a bit off center and both albums are a bit “scratchy” right out the pack. Not the pressing sadly enough 🙃
-
Not sure what others are stating. After a Ultrasonic cleaning, right out the package, it's quiet as can be. A perfect album, though the price at Newbury was more expensive than Discogs sellers; I have a feeling the cheaper prices at DC might be for subpar conditioned albums. Both disc's are perfect for me, sound and spindle holes.
-
In 35 years of buying records this LP is the most I've ever paid for a new LP and it's the only new LP I've returned due to the terrible quality of the pressing. It has really bad dish warping on LP 2, the spindle hole is tiny, off centre and has really bad surface noise throughout both records. Really disappointed as I was really excited to get this on vinyl despite the high price. I usually can live with a few defects, but this is less than acceptable.
